Replacing Suspension Hardware For Harbor Freight Single Axle Trailer With Slipper Springs
Question:
I have a Harbor Freight 40 x 48 single axle trailer with the OEM slip springs, Id like to replace those with the double eyed leaf springs and the Shakles but having trouble figuring out what parts are needed. I think I need the 2000 lb 3 leaf double eye set, and I think I need the axle hardware to mount / secure it to the axle and then I need the shackle set. Any suggestions on what part list I need or kit?

The first thing you will need to determine is what the weight capacity of the trailer is. There should be a plate or sticker on the trailer or on the axle with those numbers.
We offer a 2-leaf slipper spring, part # SP-179275, for 2,000-lb axles. I have attached a drawing of a leaf spring with the dimensions for the SP-179275 leaf spring you can check out. These springs measure 1-3/4 inches wide and have an eye diameter of 9/16 inch.
The U-bolt mounting kit for these springs is part # APUBR-10. The hangers and shackles you use depend on the clearance you need for your trailer.
I have attached a helpful article that explains slipper spring suspension and what is needed. I also attached a link to our product page for suspension hangers and kits for slipper springs you can take a look at.
