Why Do Aftermarket Roof Racks for a 2015 Dodge Durango Have Bars that are More Forward than Factory
Question:
I have 2015 Dodge Durango Limited without roof rack rails. I was looking at an aftermarket system to carry a roof box and my paddle boards. However the aftermarket systems are a lot more forward then the stock dodge roof rack. I was concerned about the over hang on the windshield of my paddle board and the roof rack. Should I be concerned that my paddle board will hang over the front windshield when if the rack was where the stock unit is the board would be centered on the truck? Also is there a fixed point system that works with this truck.

The aftermarket roof racks for the 2015 Dodge Durango with a naked roof do have the crossbars somewhat forward on the roof of the vehicle. This is because the bars attach to the door frames and the rear doors of the vehicle are right around the middle of the vehicle. I attached a picture of a Yakima rack installed on a Durango to show you.
With that being said, an aftermarket rack would still work great to carry a cargo box or paddleboard. Having the boards or the box loaded somewhat forward on the roof wouldn't be an issue either.
To complete a Yakima roof rack on your vehicle will require the parts # Y00409, # Y28TR, # Y03536, and # Y06180.
A very popular cargo box is the SportRack Horizon part # SR7011 and then for the paddleboard carrier the Lockrack Adjustable XL Watersport Carrier part # LR54FR. I attached a review video for the Lockrack as well.
