Adapter to Connect 7-Way Vehicle End to 4-Pole round Trailer Connector on 2002 Mercury Mountaineer
Question:
I have a 2002 Mecury Mountineer with hitch and 7 way male hookup already on the hitch, I bought a pop up camper that has a 4 way round female on it now. What do I need to make it work? Is there adapter that is 7 female and 4 way round male? Thanks for any help

There is not a plug and play adapter to go from a vehicle end 7-Way connector to a 4-Pole round connector. One can be made to work with your setup using the following parts.
Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End, item # PK12706
Bonded 4 Wire - per foot, item # 16-4B-1
Pollak Heavy-Duty, 4-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Socket - Metal - Vehicle End, item # PK11404
If you do not wish to build an adapter for your setup you can change out the trailer connector to a 4-Way flat connector and then use an adapter, item # PK12716 to adapt the vehicle 7-Way connector to a 4-Way.
Finally, you could just change the trailer connector out and eliminate an adapter all together. This is my recommendation because it will eliminate the need to keep track of the adapter and you will have a 7-Way connector on the trailer just in case you want to add functionality in the future. You would need to use the 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End, item # PK12706.
Our wiring page has a diagram on how to properly wire the 7-Way trailer connector. This page also has a trailer wiring diagram that will help.
