The White Ground Wire Has to be Attached to the Vehicle Frame for Installation Kit # ETBC7 to Work
Question:
I love your site! Recently installed this united on my 01 Sequoia to be able to hook up my vintage trailer, but didnt install the white ground wire to my frame. Only had a few functions working. Replaced the old rusty trailer connecter with a new Hopkins, but now have 0 functions!! Used exact same wiring as on the old except white and black wires had come off the connection on the old unit. Could it be that I need to install the white ground wire on the SUV even though some functions were working before without it??? Please help! need to show the wife how handy I am

Grounding the white wire is an important part of any electrical wiring. Without a proper ground the circuit is not complete. If the circuit is not complete then no current is moving through the system. Without any current there is nothing powering the harness. Find a nice clean and corrosion free spot on the vehicle frame to attach the ground. Make sure to check the grounds on the connectors and the trailer grounds as well. This should take care of the problem and your handyman status will be restored. I have included a video on testing for a correct ground below.
