Wiring Harness and Coolers for Towing with 2016 Honda Odyssey SE
Question:
I have a 2016 Honda Odyssey SE that Im installing a trailer hitch on. As for the wiring harness do I go with the T-One 118521 or the Curt C56118? Since its the SE it has the honda Vac installed and I want to make sure I dont have to swap connectors back and forth. Also, any recommendation on ATF and PSF coolers would be appreciated. I believe both are required per the Honda owners manual. D13503 seems to be the recommended ATF cooler from what I can find. Do I need any additional parts beyond whats included? You have a 2013 Odyssey video. Would the 2016 install be identical or are there some notable differences? Thanks.

For a 4-pole flat type wiring harness to go along with the hitch on your 2016 Honda Odyssey SE you can use the Tow Ready # 118521. This is a custom-fit powered taillight converter that will protect your Odyssey's wiring from any faults or shorts in the trailer wiring by isolating the vehicle wiring. It will not interfere with your factory-installed vacuum.
I would select your harness based on the amperage (current) requirements of your trailer lights. The Tow Ready's output is 4.2-amps per stop/turn circuit and 7.5-amps for the taillights. If in doubt about the trailer's power requirements select the higher-capacity Tow Ready to be on the safe side.
For towing with your Odyssey a supplementary transmission fluid cooler and also a power steering fluid cooler are good ways to take away some of the heat stress of towing. Systems that run cooler do tend to last longer. In general, the larger a cooler is the more it will cool your fluid. The linked articles will give you background on coolers.
The transmission cooler I recommend for your 3.5L V6 Odyssey is the Derale # D13503. It is specifically designed for vehicles like your Odyssey that have an electronic overdrive transmission.
An install video is linked; this shows a 2013 model year which is within the same generation as your van. The kit includes all required parts.
For a power steering fluid cooler you can use Derale's # D13212. This four-pass cooler is made of copper and aluminum for efficient heat transfer and it's installation in a Honda vehicle is shown in the linked video.
