Troubleshooting Bolt Holes on Curt Hitch C15319 That Don't Line Up Perfectly with Vehicle Frame

Question:

In the process of installing the 15319 Hitch on my 2001 dodge 3500 and having some minor issues. The hitch doesnt seem to fit on the frame rails quite so. Do I need to get all the bolts in and slowly pull it into place? Should it fit right up in where it needs to go easily? I am also not sure if I am using the right holes to mount to because the forwardmost hitch holes are right up against the rear spring shackles. Am I going to need to grind a little from the hitch? Any ideas?

In some cases trailer hitches can get slightly bent in shipping. Most likely that is not the case for the Curt Hitch part # C15319 since it is such a heavy duty hitch, but it is a possibility. If you can get all the bolts started I would recommend doing that before you go torqueing any of them down.

Once you get them all started and then torque them down the hitch should mate right up to the trailer frame like it is supposed to.

You would not need to grind on this hitch at all to install it.
