Why is Curts exposed hitch rated at 700lbs and yours at 500lbs?

The tongue weights of the Curt # C13195 trailer hitch and Draw-Tite # 75908 are determined by the manufacturer. Tongue weight capacity represents the maximum amount of downward force that can safely be applied to the trailer hitch receiver. During the testing process, Curt determined that their # C13195 hitch can hold up to 750 pounds of tongue weight, while Draw-Tite has determined their # 75908 hitch to have a 500 pound tongue weight capacity.

Curt has also determined that in order to comply with their warranty, a support strap like # 18050, must be used with all non-trailer loads like cargo baskets and bike racks.
