Fender Placement Consideration When Upgrading Axles on Trailer

Im upgrading the capacity of my trailer from 7k to 14k How much will I need to raise my fenders ? They are new so Im opting to move them versus replacement .

Fender placement is going to depend on the specific application. There isn't a set amount you would need to move it when going to higher rated axles. You will need to consider the taller rims and tires you will be using plus the deflection of the suspension when it compresses.

In most cases spring deflection is 1-1/2 inches when it is at capacity.

You should note that when going to higher rated axles you don't necessarily raise the total capacity of the trailer. The capacity of a trailer also considers the capacity of the frame of the trailer, the coupler, the brakes, etc.

From what I have found 65 to 95 foot pounds is the torque range you will want to be at for 9/16 inch shackle bolts. Our installers generally go to about 70 foot pounds so that is what I recommend.

Going with a slightly shorter shackle like the part #018-026-05 would not be an issue. The shackles will angle slightly flatter than the longer current shackles you have now but they'll still work fine.

The orientation of the grease hole on the wet bolts of the Dexter Heavy Duty Suspension Upgrade Kit #K71-358-00 does not matter. When you go to install this you don't have to worry about that at all.
