Battery Charger to Charge a 12 Volt Trailer Battery Using a Truck Alternator
Question:
I have 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer and plan on installing approx 40foot of 5050 LED strip lights that will draw about 15 amps. Looking at replacing the break away battery with a deep cycle battery to power both break away and LEDs. Lights will see occasional winter use when trailer is disconnected. Looking for charger recommendation that will charge/maintain when connected to my 04 GMC Sierra thru 7-way plug. Thanks

The Redarc DC to DC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1240D is going to be the best option that we have available. You would have an input wire from the truck's alternator and output wires to the battery on the trailer. The 12 volt circuit on the 7-Way may not provide the best results which is why I recommend using the alternator.
And if you are so inclined you could also hook up solar panels to this charger for times when the trailer is parked without the truck present.
