How Long Does it Take to Install Demco HiJacker 5th Wheel Hitch in 2015 Ford F-350 w/Prep Package

Question:

I have a new F350 Superduty 6.7 Diesel Crewcab with factory 5th wheel prep. I am not a mechanic. Should I have the device professionally installed, or can one easily accomplish a safe installation if that person has no experience with fifth wheels and limited mechanical experience. How much time would I reasonably expect a certified mechanic to take ie, billable hours ?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Since your 2015 Ford F-350 has the factory 5th wheel prep package the only installation of a 5th wheel hitch that is a direct fit is placing it in the pucks and turning the locking handles.

So for example if you were using Demco HiJacker # DM8550024 you would place the hitch in the 4 pucks, make sure it is seated, and turn the handles to lock the hitch down into place.

You will likely want to place the hitch in the truck in parts because the whole thing is over 200 pounds. I have included a link to a video review of this hitch as well as links to the instructions/manuals so you can determine if it is a process you want to do yourself or have someone else do it.

To install an assembled hitch they would probably bill you for 1 hour. To assemble it and install it they would probably bill you for 2 hours at most.
