Can a B and W Extend a Goose Goosneck Coupler be Used with a 4 inch Offset Gooseneck Ball

Question:

This is for Jamison C. I asked about using a B. andW extend a goose with a four inch ball extension. You said the pivot point would only be moved back 4 inches, but would t the trailer be moved back more. I dont understand what you are referring to.

I spoke with my contact at B and W and was told that the Extend a Goose # BWTEXA4200 and the 4 inch offset ball # BWGNXA4085 can be used together. However, the pivot point of the trailer will still only be 4 inches back from its original position meaning that you will get 4 inches of true offset, not 14.

The pivot point for a gooseneck hitch is on the gooseneck ball. When you move that back 4 inches you get 4 inches of actual offset. When you use the Extend a Goose you get 10 additional inches of clearance when the trailer and truck are pointing in the same direction. Now imagine the trailer and truck at a 90 degree angle. The 4 inch offset is still keeping the trailer back an additional 4 inches, but now the 10 inches of the Extend a Goose are off to the side of the truck instead of directly behind it. It no longer is moved rearward of the truck 10 inches, instead it is off to the side an additional 10 inches. While this could be helpful clearance it's not usually as helpful as an "actual offset." Hopefully that helps!
