Will a Trailer Hitch Carry a Mobility Scooter on a 2015 Kia Soul

Question:

I need to install a handicap lift to carry my handicap scooter. It is a four wheel scooter. What is the best hitch to use and can I use a Class III instead of a Class II? Please give me the part # to all parts involved including the hitch. Thanks

There aren't any Class III hitches available for the 2015 Kia Soul, only Class I hitches with a limited 200 lb tongue weight capacity. The tongue weight capacity indicates the maximum amount of weight that can be suspended from the hitch. If you were to use the Draw-Tite Class I Hitch, part # 24915, the weight of the scooter and the carrier could not exceed the 200 lb tongue weight capacity of the hitch. If your carrier and scooter can come in under that weight, everything will work fine. However, if they're too heavy, using a small trailer would be the best option.

You don't mention which carrier you were planning on using. We offer some wheelchair/scooter carriers, but nothing that is compatible with a Class I hitch. In addition to the hitch mentioned above, you'd also need the following items:

Trailer wiring harness, part # 118637
Ball mount, part # 3593
1-7/8 inch trailer ball, part # 19256 or 2 inch trailer ball, part # 19258

If you'd care to see an installation video for the hitch, please click the provided link. You can see current pricing for the items I've recommended by clicking the provided links.
