Will the Clamps on the Thule EasyFold Bike Carrier Damage Bikes with Carbon Frames

Question:

In some of the videos I have seen, you are suppose to turn the bike clamp knob until you hear the clicking sound. Although the clamp is cushioned and If I where to turn the knob until it clicks, will this this clamping force be large enough to damage carbon framed bikes?

Expert Reply:

Since carbon frames are not as resistant to clamping forces as steel or aluminum frames you would need to use caution when turning the knob on the Thule EasyFold Bike Carrier # TH903202. While it isn't too likely it would cause damage it is still a possibility on a carbon frame.

You might want to consider a different type of carrier such as the Kuat NV, # NV12G for 1-1/4 inch hitches or # NV22G for 2 inch hitches. This carrier does not touch the bike frame at all. It holds the bikes at the wheels.

The NV has a capacity of 60 pounds per bike and is made mostly out of aluminum so it is corrosion resistant. I have linked a video review for you.
