Trailer Wiring and Method to Charge Trailer Battery on a 2005 1/2 Volkswagen Jetta
Question:
My trailer is for dogs and also needs a power circuit to charge the on board battery. I would imagine I need an isolated circuit for this as well. What would you suggest?

For the 2005 and 1/2 model year VW Jetta, you will need a T-One Vehicle wiring harness, #118667, if you have the new body style. If you have the older body style, you will need the Hardwire Kit, # C59496.
Since the wiring on the harness and your Jetta is not rated for a charging application, you will need to hardwire a connector specifically for this function. You could use part # PK11851, mount it on your vehicle. Connect 6 gauge to 00 gauge wire from the positive battery terminal to the back of this connector via a 40 amp circuit breaker # PK54540.
On the trailer side, use # PK11852 and run 6 to 00 gauge wire to the trailer battery via a 30 amp circuit breaker # 38630. This should charge the battery.
