Selecting Proper Ball Mount for Towing Cargo Trailer Behind 2002 County Coach Motorhome
Question:
I will be buying a cargo trailer to tow behind my 2002 County Coach motorhome. The distance of the pin of the receiver to the back edge of my bumper is 6. This ball mount that I am looking at has a 12inch distance between the receiver pin and the center of the ball. Will 6inch be enough distance between the bumper and center of the ball to safely tow the trailer? The cargo trailer I am buying has a tongue that is 3foot 10inch long and takes a 2 5/16inch ball. Thanks in advance!

We offer ball mounts in various lengths to allow for plenty of clearance between the tow vehicle and hitched trailer. In your case you need a ball mount long enough to allow the hitch ball to clear your motorhome's rear bumper and so the Draw-Tite # 4284 that you referenced will work fine since it provides 12-inches of space between the hitch pin hole and the ball mounting hole. This ball mount provides either a 1-inch rise or a 2-inch drop in height depending on which way you install it.
You can use 2-5/16-inch hitch ball # 19286 from Tow Ready and if you need a lock for the ball mount use # e98880 that we offer.
The linked article and ball mount page will help ensure you select one with the correct rise or drop to keep your hitched trailer level for good handling.
