Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 1999 GMC Savana Van with Tow Package
Question:
I have a 1999 gmc SAVANA VAN 3500 need to wire up the trailer hitch that was factory installed. i am not quite sure which wiring harness to purchase? you guys offer 2 different ones with and without the black box installed in the harness. how do i determine what harness to buy is there a way i can look at my harness and determine what to order? my original paper work from the factory says the van is equipped with a heavy duty towing package. so i am wondering if the black box is not needed? it already incorporated in my wiring harness?????? Thanks

If you checked the paper work that came with your 1999 GMC Savana and it said that it came with the heavy duty tow package I can almost guarantee all that you would need for trailer wiring would be the # C55240 that you referenced.
What you can do is check behind the jack storage cover to find the needed connector for this harness. (See picture). If you find it and test the pins of the connector with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and the circuits are active there then you will know for certain.
