Method of Bulb Replacement on Oval Red Grommet-Mount Trailer Taillight

Question:

Hey Guys, Wondering if you can point me in the right direction for how to replace the bulb of a rear grommet oval brake light. I have a 7x16 Cargo V-Nose and need to change the bulbs. Not sure if I need to remove the grommet to get to the actual light or remove an inside panel to access the light from behind. The attached photo is not my trailer but same version. Hope you can help. Thanks

Usually a grommet-mount incandescent tail light will be pressure-fitted into the grommet and held there simply by friction from the rubber. If there are no visible screws to allow lens removal and no accessible portion of the light's rear surface then its almost a sure thing that you'll just need to carefully pop the light out of its grommet. Ideally you'll have a tool that is strong enough to flex the grommet material but not so hard that it can damage the lens or base. The light in your photo looks a bit like # ST70RB from Optronics.

LED type lights, which are offered in pretty much all the same sizes, shapes and colors as incandescent lights, do not have replaceable LED elements. An example is part # STL22RB. These lights are generally covered by a limited lifetime warranty and if the LED elements fail they will be replaced under warranty by the manufacturer.
