Replacement Front Axle for a 1994 Terry 22U Travel Trailer

Question:

I hit a hole in the asphalt and bent the front axle on my travel trailer. I had a person order a new one ,but he said he could not get the exact same one. The new axle looks like the wheels are toed inwards. Every time I take it out of town, the hubs on the new axle they put on heats up so hot that you can not even think about touching it. the back axle does not heat up. I have taken it to several places to work on and each time it does the same thing, heats up. I think I need a new axle that is the same as the back one. total weight is 5800 lbs for both axles.

Trailer axles should have a bow in them that points up in the center. This is so when weight is placed on it, it flattens out. If there is not enough weight on the axle the bow will still be there and the tires will toe in like you are describing. But that should not cause excessive heat build up. It seems like there is either not enough or no grease in the hub. Or If that bow is bad enough it could be stressing the bearings very badly.

We have several axles, see link, but they are the most common sizes and may not be an exact match to what you have now. If none match the measurements of the other axle then you would need to special order one from a local tractor or trailer supply store to meet your specifications.
