Will Yakima SpareTime/Thule Spare Me Trunk Mount Bike Racks Allow Spare Tire Cover To Remain Off

Hello- I have a 2010 RAV4 Toyota. I am looking at a spare tire mounted 2 bike bike rack and I am comparing: 1: Thule Spare Me 2 Bike Rack and 2: Yakima SpareTime 2 Bike Carrier Can you advise if when I am not using the bike rack, if either or both rack will allow me to reinstall the hard spare tire cover? I wasnt sure how far out the adaptor plate/tongue extends. Thanks for your insight

As you can see in the provided photos, the tongue for the adapter plate for both racks extends past the face of the wheel which would unfortunately prevent the spare tire cover from being replaced.

As for which to choose, I personally prefer the cleaner lines of the Yakima # Y02599 SpareRide 2, and the fact that it's a bit less expensive than the Spare Me # TH963PRO doesn't hurt either. Both racks also feature locking attachment knobs to secure the rack to the spare tire mount and a cable lock so secure the bikes to the rack.

If you use the long standoff part #852-3305-001 with the long mounting bracket part #752-1425-002 you'd be good to use a tire with of up to 12-1/2 inches on the Spare Me Pro part #TH963PRO. The bracket is 5-1/2 inches long.
