Should Spindle Be Replaced After Wheel Came Off Weekend Warrior Tri-Axle Trailer

Question:

I recently came home from a trip in my 2008 Weekend Warrior and had one the tires start shredding. So I pulled into a tire shop and they convinced me to purchase 6 new tires, some of the others where showing damaged I did not notice before. When they were installing the tires they noticed 1 of the wheel bearing was loose on the tire, it had alot of play in the tire. So the guy tightened it. Later about about 80 or so miles down the road the tire came loose and went across highway. The spindle does not seem to have any damage, but of course the tire is blown. Should the bearing have been inspected prior to tightening. And should I replace the spindle anyway. Also I was lucky my old tires where 2006 tires and it was on a 3 axle trailer.

Now would be a really good time to have the entire system inspected by a qualified shop. If the lug nuts were not tightened properly that could cause the wheel to come off the trailer. The bearing should have been inspected for obvious signs of wear or damage as well as the spindle.

If the hub came off with the wheel and tire I imagine the threads on the spindle have been damaged. I would have someone inspect the entire system and replace or repair anything that is worn or damaged. Since spindles are welded on to the axle, you will want a certified professional weld any replacement spindles on your trailer.

I would not make a recommendation to replace the spindle unless the ones you have installed are damaged or worn beyond repair.
