Hitch Reducer and Extender for a Thule T2 and 2015 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

Question:

Hi there, I have a Thule T2 bike rack with 1.25inch receiver tube. Please recommend a possible reducer/ extender to be used with a 2015 Jeep Rubicon with 2inch hitch receiver, to clear the spare tire. Thanks

The Thule T2 TH9045 extends out a good distance by itself (18 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest bike carrier rail) but if that is not enough you could use an extender. However, the use of an extender and reducer will decrease the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.

Using just a reducer sleeve, such as # HT02, will provide you with just 3 inches extension but since it is not a true extension it will not reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch. If that 3 inches is enough to clear the spare then this is the best option.

If you need more extension then you could use # 80300 for 7 inches more length. This adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. If you go with it then the combined weight of the T2 (about 60 pounds) and the bikes must be less than the reduced hitch capacity.
