Will Rhino-Rack Eyebolts Damage Crossbars When Ratcheting Tie-Down On Canoe

I am concerned I might do damage to my cross bar by ratcheting too much to secure my 85 lb canoe.

When using the Eyebolts for Rhino-Rack Heavy-Duty Crossbars, part # RRREB, you will need to use caution when securing your canoe.

I called my contact at Rhino-Rack and they told me they have the strongest crossbars on the market and you should not be concerned about damaging them when ratcheting the canoe down. My recommendation is to tighten the canoe straps enough to hold the canoe in place and then to be sure to secure it by adding the bow and stern straps to make sure the canoe stays on the roof rack.

I spoke with my contact at Rhino Rack and he informed me that the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack System w/ 2 Heavy-Duty Square Crossbars #Y01-140B that you referenced would add about 4-1/2 inches to the roof of the vehicle it would be installed on.
