Brake Controller Recommendation and Installation on 1993 Chevy Suburban and 2014 Ram 1500
Question:
hello. I have recently purchased a trailer and need to install brake controllers on my vehicles. 1 is 2014 ram 1500 with factory tow package the other is 1993 suburban k 2500. the trailer is keystone hideout 260 lhs which weighs approx 5100# dry and up to 7500# loaded at capacity. can you please tell me what brake controllers would work. Thanks

Unless you actually need a separate controller for both vehicles because they'll be used for towing at the same time, I'd purchase one controller and swap it back and forth between the two vehicles as needed. I'd love to sell you two controllers, but not if you only really need one.
For a controller, I'd recommend either the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885 or the P3, part # 90195. Functionally speaking, the two are pretty similar, but the P3 has a more user-friendly display that would be a better choice for somebody that doesn't have a huge amount of experience using a brake controller. Both controllers have built-in diagnostics, but he P2 displays faults in the braking system as an alpha numeric code, while the P3 actually spells out what the problem is in plain English (or French or Spanish, if you prefer).
To install either controller on your Ram, you'd also need the wiring adapter, part # 3023-P. For the Suburban, you'll need to hardwire the controller. You'll first need a functional 4-pole connector on the vehicle. If you don't have one, you can easily install one using part # C55319. From there, you'd use our # ETBC7 brake controller install kit. I'll link you to an FAQ article and an install video showing exactly how this is done.
Either controller I recommended includes a hardwire pigtail that you'd wire into the Suburban, which would act as a quick disconnect. You'll also need an additional mounting pocket for the second vehicle. For the Prodigy P2, use part # 7686 or for the P3, use part # TK5906.
