Can a 4.80-12 Trailer Tire Be Replaced with a 145/80-12

Question:

Changing Tires on my Legend pull behind Motorcycle trailer. It has 4.80/12 on it now wanting to put the 145/R12 on it. I have a little room under fender but not much. If the 145/R12 or too big do they make maybe a 135/R12 or 125R12?

Expert Reply:

Your 4.80-12 tire has an overall diameter of 20.5 inches, a 145/80-12 tire will have an overall diameter of 21.3 inches. The fender clearance difference you would see with the taller size would be .4 of an inch.

If you can fit an additional .4 of an inch between your current tire and the fender the part # AM10130 would work well. There is no trailer tire size that has a smaller increase in tire diameter for you going from the 4.80-12.
