Size Difference Between the Kenda Karrier ST145/R12 Radial Tire # AM10130 and a 4.80-12 Trailer Tire

Question:

How much bigger are they over 4.8x12?Because I too have a light duty trailer, and came stock with bias 4.8x12.I want to change those for radial, since I was advised they can withstand the friction far better when you do highway.I think e-trailer used to have 4.8x12 radial, but now I dont see it.The only radials I see are these here. I need to know they will fit. That is why I ask how much bigger are they. Thanks!

The Kenda Karrier ST145/R12 Radial Tire, # AM10130, is approximately 1/2 inch larger in diameter and 1 inch wider than a 4.80-12 trailer tire. The main things to consider when moving to a larger tire size is wheel well clearance and weight capacity. The weight capacity should not be an issue since this is a load range D tire with a maximum load rating of 1,220 lbs at 65 psi.

The wheel well clearance is what you will want to look at. This tire will sit approximately 1/4 inch closer to the inside of the fender and 1/2 inch closer to the trailer wall/frame. You will want to make sure you have enough room between your tire tread and the fender and between the inside wall of the tire and the closest part of the trailer.
