Installation and Operation of Yakima Swing Away Enclosed Carrier Y62VR on 2003 Honda CR-V

Question:

Hi, I was wondering if the Yakima enclosed carrier Y62VR swinges enough to get into the back of my CRV. I have a 2003 Honda CRV and was wondering if the carrier can be moved enough to allow the door to open. If thats not possible, I was also considering whether the exo could be combined with a hitch extender to make it work with this vehicle. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

The Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches - 10 cu ft - 100 lbs # Y62VR swings completely away from the back of your vehicle to give you full access to the rear of your vehicle. When locked in its forward travel position the front edge of the box will be 4-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole on your receiver.

If you CR-V has a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch you cannot use this carrier. It requires either a class III or class IV hitch with a 2-inch receiver. If you have a 2-inch Class III hitch on your car such as Draw-Tite # 75690 then you can use the Yakima EXO # Y62VR as long as you have the required clearance. This carrier cannot be used with a hitch extender except for the Yakima # Y69VR.

You might want to have a look at the linked article that shows how to measure for the required clearance to use a cargo carrier. This will give you the process to choose a carrier that will clear your spare tire.

Please feel free to let me know the size hitch you have and the clearance measurement from the hitch pin hole to the rear of the spare tire and I will be glad to recommend appropriate carriers.
