Trailer Wiring Harness Malfunction on 2007 Toyota RAV4 and Recommended Replacement
Question:
I have a wiring harness to a trailer on an 07 Rav 4. Think it came from you but actually not positive as been few years. Worked well all this time and now I have a brake light on trailer that stays on no matter what. Found that the yellow wire coming out of the black sealed box is always hot no matter what I do. there is a hot coming into that box but dont think the yellow coming out should be hot all the time?

You are correct that the yellow wire exiting your RAV4's wiring harness should not be hot at all times. This wire should carry an output signal only when the yellow wire on the left-hand input side is carrying a signal from the RAV4's left taillight.
Based on your testing results the harness is damaged and requires replacement with a unit like the Curt # C56165 or the TowReady # 118412. I suggest the Curt for its higher current output capacity. A helpful article and install video are linked for you along with the written instructions for both harnesses. They will install in an identical manner.
