Recommended Trailer Wiring Adapter To Connect 2002 Jayco Popup To 2009 Acura MDX

Question:

Hi. I have a 2009 Acura mdx that I am trying to connect with my 2002 Jayco Heritage Laurel. I got the Curt 56038 and have been trying to connect to my trailer but to know success. I Installed as the video shows and used a 4 flat to 7 blade then a 6 square for the camper. All the circuits tested good on every device but no blinking for the turn signal. When started the car, none of the lights work and no blinkers. Thought maybe it was the camper but put my friends four runner in, it worked perfectly. Also, the previous owner all the lights worked. I havent hooked up the brakes or battery charger yet. Was hoping to get the tail lights and blinkers working first. Please help!

Using adapters as you described can introduce problems if the everything is not perfectly matched and can cause problems like you are experiencing. My first recommendation is to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and test the 4-way adapter on your Acura. Have someone sit in the front of the vehicle and run through the functions. If everything checks out okay, you can go from there.

You can then use a 6-way square adapter like part # 37995. I have attached a photo of the vehicle side of the connector. You would splice into the wires behind the 4-way on your vehicle and then run the red wire to the battery and the blue wire to your brake controller, using Wiring Kit part # 5506. This wiring kit includes 10-gauge wire, a 30-amp circuit breaker for the brake controller and a 40-amp circuit breaker for the 12V wire going to the battery.

We do offer an adapter that is designed for Jayco trailers. One end of part # 30104 connects to the 4-way on your Acura, and the other end has a 6-way square connector for the camper. You will want to use the circuit tester like part # 3808 to test the signal coming out of the adapter.

If it does not match the wiring on the trailer, you will need to change the wiring on one of the connectors to get them to match.

I have attached links to a couple helpful articles that explains trailer wiring and also troubleshooting trailer wiring you can check out.
