Method for Crimping Safety Chain Hook onto Safety Chains  

Question:

I have the Curt 81810 chain hooks. How can I crimp the chain end in order to keep the safety chain from coming off? Tried a 3lb hammer which didnt phase it. Thanks for any help you can provide!

It is not advisable to use a hammer on an item like the Curt # C81810 as this can weaken the link and cause it to fail when under load. A better option is to use a vice which can apply gradual pressure to close the link.

It sounds like a better option for you might be to use a safety chain quick link, such as Curt # C82932. This has a threaded connector to allow easy installation and removal when necessary. This link is rated for 3,300lbs safe working load rating and 16,500lb break strength rating.
