Question:

I have a 89 trailstar trailer for a 18 foot bass buggy pontoon boat , I,m replacing the angle iron that theleaf spring hangers are welded too .I would like to change all the hangers ,bolts, etc. The previous owner broke the original round axle and put a 2x2 inch square axle in , Im tryin to find out if a 2000 lb , I think its 2000 lb, axle is efficient for this pontoon im towing ? It has a 4 leafs in the spring . 1 3/4 width , 26 inch length . hangers are 4 inch in front and rear is 1 1/2 . The axle measures appox 81 1/2 brake backing plate to the other brake backing plate , please recommend products to change everything or replacement parts if the axle is sufficient ? thank you

If the axle isn't bent from being overloaded (wear on outside of tire tread), then you're probably okay. If it's bent, you'd want to replace it. Since you don't know the axle capacity, we can make a pretty good guess if we know the bolt pattern of the wheel/hub as well as the inner and outer wheel bearing reference numbers. Knowing the axle capacity is important, so you can choose the proper replacement parts.

We offer a few standard sized 2K and 3.5K axles. To recommend a replacement, I'd need to know the hub face to hub face dimension as well as the spring center to spring center distance. I'll provide a diagram showing these measurements.

Since leaf springs can flatten out over time, the best way to get an accurate measurement of their length is to jack up the trailer so the axle hangs free and then measure the length. 25-1/4 is a common length spring for a 3500 lb axle.

For spring hangers, we don't offer a 4 inch tall hanger, but the # E4139 at 4-1/4 inches would be an acceptable replacement. For the rear hanger, use part # 115917. You'll also need 4 shackle straps, part # 115208GALV and 6 shackle bolts part # TRFA73Z916DLNZ.

If you're replacing axles, you'll also need U-bolts and plates. Which ones you'll need will depend on the diameter of your axle. If you can reply with the information I've requested above, I'd be happy to make further recommendations.
