What is the Difference Between the 7K and 6K Electric Brake Assemblies from Dexter Axle
Question:
i just purchased an old livestock trailer. the brakes have various problems wires broken off at magnet, frozen/missing adjusters, etc. the brakes are definetly 12x2, but im not sure if theyre 6000 or 7000. from the pictures, i cant tell the difference between the brakes listed for sale other than the price difference. i have 8 lug hubs but the bearing sizes are the same as what i had on my old trailer with 6000 lb axles. can you tell me how to distinguish 6000/7000 axles from each other, or if it matters as far as brakes go or for that matter what the difference is between 6k/7k brakes for sale on your site? thanks

There are two differences between the 6K and 7K brake assemblies. For the 7K, they use a semi-metallic compound on the brake shoes instead of the composite compound, and the magnets are stronger. This gives the brake assemblies more stopping power.
They fit the same axles and spindle mounts, the only difference is how much weight the assemblies can safely stop. Choose the brake assemblies that have the weight requirement you need.
