Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2004 Volvo V40 Wagon
Question:
I just watched your video where you installed the Drawtite 24688 on the sedan version of my car Volv0 S40. I have a the station wagon 2004 V40. Is this installation as easy as the one in the video?

Draw-Tite trailer hitch 24688 was made obsolete in February of 2014 so it is no longer available. But when it was available the installation was the same on sedans and wagons.
The only hitch available now for your 2004 Volvo V40 wagon is Curt hitch # C11822. It also installs the same way on sedans and wagons and is similar to the Draw-Tite hitch.
If you will be using the hitch for towing the correct ball mount to use is # C45521. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. And to add trailer wiring you can use # C59496.
If you want to use the hitch for an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier then you have to make sure the accessory is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch.
Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or car go carrier) per their warranty requirements.
