Replacing a Prodigy P2 # 90885 Brake Controller in 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan
Question:
i believe I purchased a prodigy 2 for a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan when new. The unit got a short thru it and I need to purchase a new unit. Will the plug in back of unit be the same as the plug install in van or will I have to purchase new plug and wire in? Thanks.

If you have had a Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, previously installed in your 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan and the wiring to install it under the dash is still present then you will be able to simply plug in the new controller with that same harness. In your van the install would have been a hard-wire type that would have used an install kit like our # ETBC7. In any case the P2 includes a pigtail wiring harness if you do need one.
I suggest you carefully inspect your trailer wiring before installing the new controller since if the cause for the short that damaged the unit still exists on the trailer then the new unit could also be at risk. First inspect both the van and trailer connectors for any signs of corrosion or damage and clean or replace as needed. If you need a new 7-way socket on the van you can use # 37185. If you need a new 7-way plug on the trailer you can use part # H20044 and junction box # 38656. You may also want to use ring terminals like # DW05702-1 or # 44-5310A.
Also check the wiring on the trailer, looking for any cracked or worn insulation, especially around points where the wire may rub against the trailer frame.
