Wiring a Third Brake Light on a Camper Shell on a 2012 GMC Sierra
Question:
Can the converter be used to wire in a brake lamp on topper for a 2012 gmc sierra? The brake lamp will blink on the cap if it is wired into the rear lamps.

You are correct, your 2012 GMC Sierra does have a combined wiring system with the brake lights and turn signals on the same circuit. There are a couple of options you could use to get a dedicated brake light only signal for the brake light on the cap.
First, under the dash of your truck, to the left of the steering column there are some tow package wires held together with a white tag. If you pull them down there should be a light blue or orange wire that carries a brake light only signal. All you would need is enough wire to reach from under the dash to the light.
The other option is to use a converter such as # 118158. It will take the combined signals and separate them so on the output side you will have one wire each for the turn signals that you won't need and one red wire that will be brake light only.
