Which Powered Converter Vehicle Wiring Harness Can Be Used on a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am thinking about purchasing this part and the 7 pole adaptor. I will be towing a boat trailer and possibly a pop up camper. I am worried because the camper has so many lights that it will pull too many amps from the vehicles electrial system and short out the electrical system. Is this a concern when pulling amps from the taillights, instead of using the Factory Recommended mopar wiring kit, which is directly connected at the power source? Is there any risk of doing damage to my cars electrical system if I tow the camper, which pulls so many amps?

For your 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, there is a possibility that the camper with all the lights could pull too much electricity for the 118425 custom wiring and your vehicles electrical system. Instead, I recommend using the Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite with 4 Pole Harness and Hardwire Kit - Includes Testers, # 118425.
With this harness, you will have a circuit protected powered modulite that has a connection directly to the vehicles battery. This will allow enough power for the campers lights while protecting your Jeeps sensitive wiring. It can be used with an 4 to 7 adapter.
You will need to hardwire the unit. using the included circuit tester, test the wires behind the taillights. Find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the left blinker. Attach this wire to the yellow wire on the harness. Next, find the wire that carries a constant signal when the lights are on. Connect this wire to the brown wire on the harness.
Next, route the green wire to the right taillight. Find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the right blinker. Attach this wire to the green wire on the harness. The white wire is the ground and will connect to an existing ground point or vehicle frame.
The red wire (by itself, next to the green wire) gets routed to the front of the vehicle and connects to the battery via the fuse that comes with the kit. The other red wire, with the white brown and yellow wire, can be grounded with the white wire. I have included installation instructions below.
