Yes, that is correct. Some model 2007 Chevy Avalanches have what is called a factory tow package that comes with a 7-Way connection at the rear of the vehicle, and/or wiring already ran under the dash for a brake controller. Some models do not have this factory tow package. You will be able to tell if you have a functioning 7-Way trailer plug at the rear of the vehicle.

No matter which system you have, installation of a brake controller will be fairly simple on your vehicle. Even without a factory tow package, the wires will already be there to hardwire the brake controller to the vehicle. Chances are, they are up under the dash, to the left of the brake pedal, held together with white tape. For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2 Brake Controller, # 90885. It is one of our most popular and highest rated brake controllers. I have included the installation details linked below.

You will have to test the wires for function with a circuit tester, like the Quickee # 3808. Using the circuit tester, find the wire with a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed. Attach this wire to the red wire on the brake controller. Next, find the wire that has a constant 12 volt signal. Attach this wire to the black wire on the brake controller. The white wire on the brake controller on the ground. Chevy usually has a black ground wire, but test it first, and if it has any positive signal, it is not the ground. The last wire is for the trailer brakes. It is usually a dark blue wire on a Chevy. This wire attaches to the blue wire on the brake controller. If you have a factory tow package, you are done. If not, there is just one more step.

Next, you will need Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connectors, # 30955, if you do not have a factory tow package. This is a pretty simple install. Again, the connections are there, you will just have to plug in and mount the harness. I have included a video below that shows this on a similar vehicle.
