Recommended Supplemental Braking System for Flat Towing 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

Starting to look at tow bar systems for my RV and Jeep. I have seen some tow bars with an integrated surge braking system. Blue Ox has one and so does ReadyBrute. How do the surge systems compare to the Patriot-type systems?

A Tow Bar and Braking System like the Ready Brute Elite combines a tow bar with a built-in supplemental braking system. The Ready Brute Elite braking system activates the brakes on your towed vehicle when your RV stops or slows. Basically the braking force of your RV works in combination with the forward surge of your towed vehicle to make it slow down and stop - like a surge brake trailer coupler.

Instead I would recommend a proportional braking system like the Roadmaster tow bar braking system, # RM-9400, to flat tow your 2015 Jeep Wrangler. This is one of the easiest systems to set up and use and applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

With this system requiring about 15 amps of power, I recommend using the Roadmaster 12 Volt Outlet Kit part # RM-9332. This will connect the braking system directly to the vehicle battery.

For a tow bar you can use the Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar # RM-522.
For a wiring kit, use # RM-154.
For safety cables, use # RM-645.
For baseplates for your Jeep Wrangler use # RM-521448-4.
