Recommended Trailer Hitch For 2005 Ford Explorer

Question:

Hi guys! I have a 2005 ford explorer and was wondering what other year explorer hitches would be compatible with my 2005 or would bolt up and match to my 2005? thank you.

The trailer hitches we offer that are designed to fit your 2005 Ford Explorer are all made to fit beneath the OEM hitch on an Explorer. If you do not have an OEM hitch on your Explorer, installing any of our hitches can be installed but will have a gap under the rear bumper where the OEM hitch would have been installed.

I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C13550. This is a Class lll hitch and has a 2 inch receiver opening. You should always check your owner's manual to make sure you do not exceed the vehicle tongue weight or towing capacity, even though some of the components may be rated higher.

If you need a wiring harness and you have the factory tow package on your Explorer I recommend the Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness, part # C55251. This plugs into the connection point behind the rear bumper and will give you a 4-way connector at the rear of your vehicle. If you do not have the factory towing package, I recommend part # 18252.

If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

I have attached links to a couple of pages for some of the products we offer you may be interested in using the hitch for. If there is a specific item you have any questions about just let me know and I will be glad to make some recommendations.
