Part Needed to Convert 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited from 4-Pole Flat to 7-Way Trailer Socket

Question:

Hello, I am needing to add a 7-way plug to my 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimted. I have the factory 4-way already. What wiring item do I need? Thanks.

If you already have a working 4-pole flat trailer connector on your 2011 Wrangler Unlimited you can easily convert this connector's lighting signals into the round RV-style 7-way format. You will use part # 37185 from Hopkins, which is a combination 4-pole and 7-way in one unit. This lets you retain both connector formats on your Jeep.

This Hopkins part includes a metal mounting bracket, installation hardware and connectors to allow you to make additional circuit connections on the 7-way if you wish. The extra leads that are provided - blue, black, purple and white - are for electric trailer brakes (blue), 12V trailer power (black), reverse light circuit for trailer backup lights (purple) and ground (white wire). Please refer to the photo I have linked for you that shows these leads and the yellow butt connectors included for making those connections.

When this part is plugged in to your 4-pole it will carry only the same stop/turn/tail light signals as on your existing 4-pole, only in the 7-way connector format, unless you make the additional connections.
