Availability of Trailer Hitch to Fit 2000 Mercury Sable, 1998 Ford Taurus and 2005 Ford Taurus
Question:
I have 3 older vehicles, a 2000 Mercury Sable, 1998 Ford Taurus, and a 2005 Ford Taurus. I am interested in buying a hitch that may transfer from one vehicle to next. I see that the Draw tite class I 24699 is applicable to the 2000 Sable and 1998 Taurus. The class II hitch 36313 is applicable to the 2000 Sable and 2005 Taurus but the recommended hitch for the 1998 Taurus is 36252. Will the 36313 also fit on the 1998 Taurus or will the 24699 also fit on the 2005 Taurus? Thank you.

We do offer one trailer hitch receiver, Curt Class II hitch # C12232, that can fit all three of your vehicles.
This 1-1/4-inch hitch will fit the 2000 Sable, both sedan and wagon; it will fit the sedan, SHO and wagon versions of the 1998 Taurus; and it will also fit both sedan and wagon versions of the 2005 Taurus. You are lucky! This kind of compatibility does not happen too often.
If you plan to tow you will need ball mount # C45522 and either 1-7/8-inch ball # 19256 or 2-inch # 19258. You will also need a wiring harness. I have provide a link for wiring for each of the three vehicles to allow you to select your vehicle style and find the correct harness.
If you intend to use hitch-mount accessories like a bike or cargo carrier you need to select a 1-1/4-inch Class II product. Links are provided for both of these in case that's your intended use.
The hitch comes with all required installation hardware. The only specialized tool required for installation is a torque wrench, which is essential to ensure the fasteners are tightened to the correct specs as listed in the written instructions which I have linked for you. I also included two helpful articles concerning hitch installation tips.
Please note that hitch installation hardware is one-time-use only. It can never be re-used. You can order replacement hardware kits from us quite simply just by entering the part # RHK into our search box. Enter the hitch number in the field provided and select Curt from the drop-down menu box. For three vehicles you will need to order two additional hardware kits.
