Video Transcript for Tow Ready Safety Chains and Cables - Safety Chains - TR63035 Review

Today we are going to be taking at look at part number TR63035. This is the tow-ready safety chain with quick-link adapters on each end. Now safety chains are going to be required in most states. They are going to act as a safety feature in a backup system. That's going to prevent the trailer from a run away situation if the trailer coupler we're to disconnect from the connection point, like your hitch ball. We do recommend when installing these that you cross the chains under the coupler. It's going to act as a cradle so if the coupler does come disconnected from your hitch ball, the chains will cradle that coupler and keep it from dragging on the road.

You're going to get one chain with this part number. The chain is going to measure 72 inches long. It's a class 3 safety chain and again, it's going to have the quick-links on each end. Maximum load stretch, the brake strength rating for this chain is 5,000 pounds. The safe working load limit is 1,650 pounds.

That goes for the same with the quick-links. The quick-links are rated the same as the chain. The chain is made from a nice steel construction. It's going to have a zinc coating on it, so it's going to be protected from rust and corrosion. The actual link diameter on the chain is going to measure about 1/4-inch and then the width of the opening going this way is going to measure a 1/2-inch. Here on our quick-links, these are going to give us an opening of about 2-5/16th of an inch and they go in this direction right above the connection point.

It's going to measure about 5/8ths of an inch and then the diameter of the quick-link is going to be able 3/8ths of an inch, so the diameter of the quick-link is a little bit larger than the diameter of the actual link on our chain. Now when it comes to attaching this to you particular application, there are a couple different ways to do so. It's going to have quick-links on either end. This chain is kind of the perfect situation to find the middle link and attach that to your trailer. Now if you have a really long connection that your needing to bank. Let's say you have a fold-away coupler on your trailer tongue, then you may need two of these.

One for each side, but in most cases 72-inch chains, you can find the middle link, attach that to your trailer and then you can attach each end of the chain to the safety chain loops on your hitch. You can attach it to your frame a couple different ways. You can bolt this on or you can purchase a safety chain loop. That's going to be sold separately. We offer those here on our website and you can weld that safety chain loop onto the frame of your trailer and then attach a link to it. Then again, the other end is going to feature those quick-links and you can simply attach those to the safety chain loops on your hitch. It's a really nice simple operation. In order to get these tightened down all the way, you would simply just place a wrench over that. It's going to use a 14-mm or a 9/16th inch wrench to get that all the way tightened down. That's going to do it for today's review of part number TR63035.

I want to thank you for all your help with my trailer you were more helpful than you realize. So this is my trailer for a 22' Flats Cat shallow draft Catamaran. I totally dismantled my trailer and buffed by hand with a wire buffer and sand blasted in some spots and applied multiple coats of some very expensive galvanize paint (Z.R.C.). I installed all new C. E. Smith Carpet (about 80'), seven new LED waterproof lights, new springs, new equalizers, new tongue jack, new wench, new safety chain, new chain brackets, all new SS hardware and a 35' long wiring harness.
I was able to send only one review with a picture of the safety chain and brackets. I'm having a little trouble with the rest..oh some of these items were bought locally or from your competitors, until I found ETRAILER. Your prices were cheaper for the exact same things. Your helpful how to videos were helpful. And Rose, your personal helpful knowledge made my buying experience very pleasant, I actually enjoyed talking to you! Thanks to ETRAILER and specifically to Rose G.

Replaced old rusty chains with these. Old ones were also to short. They haven't rusted yet although the trailer does not see salt water just brackish. Good chain for the money. Always pleased w/etrailer.

Great chains. Solid and very heavy. Never needed them as they are intended but if the trailer had ever come off I think they would have done the job

  • Where to Attach the Safety Chains After Installing the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit
You will need to locate the safety chains before the cut that is made to install the Fold-Away Coupler Hinge, # FHDPB330301, to be in compliance with DOT regulations. Normally the chains are welded to the bottom or side of the trailer framing, and ran forward. I would have a qualified weldor, weld a Safety Chain Loop, # E950, to the bottom of the trailer frame, before the fold way cut, and then attach safety chains, like part # 2118-348-04, with Safety Chain Quick Links, # 2114-553-04....

  • How to Extend Trailer Safety Chains that are Too Short to Reach Loops in Hitch Receiver
If you want to just add on some sort of extension you can use Safety Chain Quick Link # C82932 which has a working load limit of 3300-lbs. This will give you about 3-inches additional length. Ideally trailer safety chains will be one continuous chain, without additional connection points or extenders. The best solution is to replace your safety chains with new ones of the appropriate rating and length, such as TowReady # TR63035 (sold as a single piece) which is 72-inches long and that...

  • What are the Sizes of the Chain Links in the Tow Ready 5k Safety Chains
I have included a couple of pictures I edited showing the dimensions of the chain links and the quick link included with chains # TR63035. These chains have a capacity of 5,000 pounds when used as safety chains (lateral pull). The largest bolt that could fit through one of the regular links is going to be a 1/2 inch or 7/16 inch due to slight variations in the links. For the larger quick ling 11/16 is the largest

  • Is Clevis Hook 6495-301-04 Compatible with Tow Ready Safety Chain Kit with Clevis Hooks 49150
On the Clevis Hook with Latch, 5/16" Item # 6495-301-04 the pin that would go through a chain link is 7/16 inches in diameter like you said. That means that the internal width of a chain link would have to be at or a little above 7/16 inches in order for the pin to go through the link. For safety chains # 49150 the metal of the links is 5/16 inches but the opening in a link is a hair under 1/2 an inch and so they would work with # 6495-301-04. You could also use Safety Chain with Quick...

The Quick Links included in the Tow Ready Safety Chain # TR63035 are rated along with the chain itself for 5000-lbs break strength. The working load limit (WLL) is 1650-lbs. I verified this with my contact at TowReady. While using the extension for 24", your maximum towing capacity will be reduced to 6,000 lbs and tongue weight to 600 lbs.
