Video Transcript for TorkLift Battery Boxes - Camper Battery Box - TLA7732 Review

Today we're going to review part number TLA7732. This is the Torklift Hidden Power under-vehicle battery mount with the battery box. Now this is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500, 3500 models starting in 2011. What I would recommend to do on a custom fit part is to go to our website, use our fit guide, and type in the year and model vehicle to see if it's will work for your application. Now basically this part will let you add a battery that ties into your truck's electrical charging system. Now the battery you would have to supply.

That is not included. It is designed to be an extension of your RV's battery when the RV is plugged into your truck. It provides extra battery power in your camper or RV to extend the time you can run on your 12-volt system. The box will hold a lead acid AGM sealed and even the gel cell batteries. It does even come with the quick disconnect power connector, helps ease installation and removal of your battery.

Basically you wire this to your battery cables and then this to the wiring on the vehicle. All you have to do is just push them together to get a connection and then just unplug them to remove them. Very quick and easy. Now the battery box itself is a sturdy polymer battery box; it's included. There's two tabs here, one on each side. You just push in and lid would come off.

If you notice, the lid does have right up here vents here and then right over here, these vents right here, so when you put your lid on it will be able to vent the gasses out so there's no buildup on the inside of the battery box. Now it does come with the battery box a strap that will hold the battery box down. Also on the inside if you notice there's this little divider. It slides in and out on this one end. There's different slots so if you have a larger battery just slide it on the very end one just like that and it will hold a bigger battery. If you have a shorter, smaller battery just put it closer, slide it in, and then it will hold the smaller one.

Then just slide your tabs in, lock that down, and then when you put it onto the battery mount just run your strap around it to hold it into place. On the mount itself it's an easy no-drill installation. Right here you can see where it will clamp around the truck frame. This will be beneath the truck so your battery will be up under the vehicle. It includes all the necessary hardware when installing it, a good set of directions. Again, it is custom designed for your vehicle. This part is made in the USA and it does come with a lifetime warranty. That should do it for the review on part number TLA7732, the Torklift Hidden Power under-vehicle battery mount, with the battery box. .

The bracket is solid, but the mounting/securing of the plastic box to the bracket leaves a bit to be desired. It does protect the battery well from the elements, but it does not secure the battery down well. If you wanted to spend more money, you could get a battery box from the Offroad manufacturers that fits within the plastic box and bolt it down, which would be more secure. I’m going to be modifying the bracket and box so that I can attach a ratchet strap in place of the provided strap to make it secure as possible without breaking the bank. Eventually I might take some all thread and clamp down a bar across the top of the battery, similar to some older OEM battery securing mechanisms.

I modified the battery mount to fit my 7 X 14 covered cargo trailer. Added a couple of other pieces to it. Works great.

This was a direct bolt on, no drilling required, on my 1996 Ford E350 Motorhome chassis. I was able to double the battery capacity of the coach. Expensive part but well made. I used a floor jack to lift and hold the battery box up while making the final connections.

Installed this about a year ago and have not had any issues with it. It works as advertised! Its not "easy" to install or remove with my current set up and heavy AGM battery. I likely have to many heavy lines going into the box and then connected a fuse box/distribution box on the outside of the box. I have been off road and have not damaged it at all! Great product to keep the "house Battery" out of the bed of my truck and attached low and out of the way! Trying to figure out if I can mount a second one!!

by:

Used this to attach a battery to the railing of a utility trailer. Not exactly what it was intended for, but worked great. Very satisfied. Very thick sturdy metal, and very good battery box. Expensive, but you won't be disappointed in the quality.

by:

Great option for the extra battery. I should be able to transfer it to another full framed vehicle or trailer when I’m done with this truck. Can’t see any room for improvement.

by:

Great quality. I used this product to supply power to my winch. Required some modifications to fit my application (1.5x4 C-Beam trailer) since it was made to fit underneath a vehicle, not bolt to an open trailer. Very happy with the quality and I am confident this unit will last a long time.

by:

Very strong design.I have a 110 lb battery on it!

works great.

  • Can Dual Battery Setup of Trailer Wiring be Disconnected When Towing
In order for both batteries to charge while you are traveling both batteries would have to be connected. You can have one or both batteries disconnected though and the rest of the trailer taillight wiring will still function. A parallel battery setup would not drain the tow vehicle battery when towing. The alternator would easily be able to provide enough amperage. If you left the trailer connected when the vehicle is off the batteries would slowly discharge though.
