GasStop ACME vs POL Graphic

Notes:

  • These valves are only meant to be used on travel trailers and fifth wheels that have the ACME connection fitting. Please see the graphic above to double check what type of valve you need.
  • Adapter fittings (sold separately) may be required to connect your hoses to your propane system's regulator.

You're headed to the next campsite, and in the chaos of packing up, you forgot to turn off your propane system. While on the road, someone rear ends you, causing a propane line to come loose, and you now run the risk of a fire breaking out on your RV. It's a dreaded situation that no one wants to suffer through.

Unlike EFVs and other built-in limiters that just reduce the flow of gas, GasStop shut-off safety valves immediately and completely shut off your gas supply when they detect either a major leak in your dual-tank propane system or major failure of your regulator. This protects both your family and your travel trailer or fifth wheel, ensuring that your camping trip remains safe, fun, and worry-free. And while these safety valves will shut off for major leaks such as a large break in a hose, they won't shut off for small leaks that result from your regulator's small housing failure or clogged chambers. This means that your furnace or heater won't go out in the middle of the night while camping in the frigid mountains over a small, less dangerous leak.

Stainless Steel Hoses Have 90-Degree Fittings

GasStop Stainless Steel Hose

If your dual-tank propane setup is in a particularly small or cramped compartment, the 90-degree ACME connections on these hoses make it quick and easy to hook up to your tanks. This helps prevent the hoses from bunching and puts less strain on them, which means they'll last longer. And you can put a cover over your propane tanks without the hoses snagging the fabric or stop it from fitting over the tanks altogether.

The braided stainless steel hoses won't crack or tear as easily as traditional rubber hoses, which get stiff after a period of time due to daily wear and tear. The hoses are also corrosion-resistant, so they can withstand the elements much better than rubber hoses.

Using the Pressure Gauges to Test for Minor Leaks

GasStop Safety Valve Testing for Minor Leaks

The integrated pressure gauges provide a clear and easy way to tell what your propane tanks' gas pressure is while the gas is being used. If it's on "high", there's been an increase in gas pressure, most likely due to excessive heat, and you'll have to cool the tanks down. If it's on "gas", then you'll know you still have plenty of usable gas left. And if it's on "low", then it's time to switch out your tanks. The gauges are also rotatable, so they can be used from any angle, though it is recommended to keep them no lower than 45 degrees from the sky.

The gauges can also be used to test for minor leaks. Once the GasStop safety valves has been installed and the gas appliances have been turned off, push down on the gauges 4 to 6 times to see what the gas pressure is. If the needles are below the red bar on the gauges, then one or more of the following is the cause: the cylinder valves aren't open, the GasStop safety valves have shut off, you have run out of gas, you haven't pushed the gauges the appropriate number of times, or the temperature is around freezing.

If the needles are above the red bar, note the exact position before turning off the valves on your propane tanks. Wait 60 seconds for standard applications and 5 minutes for longer RV gas systems. If the needles are in the same position, you can continue to use your propane system. If the needles dropped during that time, there is a leak somewhere. You shouldn't use your propane system until that leak has been found and repaired.

Installing the Safety Valves

GasStop Safety Valve Installation

These GasStop safety valves are extremely simple to install. Once your tank-propane system and all of your gas appliances have been shut off, tighten the GasStop safety valves onto your propane tanks. The re-attached your regulator and install the hoses before checking for any leaks in your propane system. To allow the gas to flow, push down on the gauge faces 4-6 times.

Adding safety valves to both tanks means you'll still be protected from gas leaks even if one tank empties in the middle of the night and the regulator kicks over to the other tank. You won't have to manually move the valves over to the other tank in the morning as you would if you had just 1 valve.

Video Transcript for Review of GasStop Propane Fittings - Emergency Shut-Off Gauges with 12" Hoses - GS39FR

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this gas stop emergency propane shut off gauge and hose set. This set is going to give you two of these emergency propane shut off gauges and two of these 12 inch hoses. So these gauges are going to help protect your family against any major propane leaks or regulator failures. And these are going to help turn off the gas supply immediately if there is a leak or failure detected. So unlike your other propane safety devices that are built into your propane tank itself and into your hoses that cut off the majority of your propane if there's a leak.

They still leave a little bit of propane flowing through which can be extremely dangerous if you've got a fire or something going. So this is going to cut off 100% of the flow so you don't have to worry about any of that propane still leaking out. So it's gonna give you a lot of peace of mind. This is gonna have the type one acme fitting, so it is gonna be compatible with your travel trailers and fifth wheels. We do have a different option for your Class A and Class C motor homes that has a POL connection, but this is going to be the design for your travel trailers and fifth wheels.

Both are gonna be the exact same thing. We've got a nice brass and reinforced polycarbonate construction, so they are gonna be very corrosion resistant and long-lasting. And having two valves and two hoses is going to allow you to have one installed on each of your tanks. And so you don't have to worry about switching it from an empty tank to the full tank. And when it's ready to switch, they'll both be hooked up and ready to go so that you can make that process a little more streamlined.

These do have this rotating pressure gauge at the top. It's gonna be very easy to read quickly to see if your tank has high pressure, if it's got sufficient gas, or if it's getting close to being empty. You can very easily see that. If you we're to experience a leak and you we're to shut it down it's very simple to get it reset. You just push down on that forward to six times and that will reset it and allow the propane to flow through once again.

And that will also allow you to check for leaks if you have any that you're concerned about. Very simple to get installed. You just use that type one acme fitting tighten down onto your existing propane tanks gas cylinder, and then the other end will receive the hose connection there. So basically just hooking up like you already have just putting this in line there. So that is gonna take up a little more room, having that extra component in there. Looking at slightly over three inches I'll call it 3 1/8 of an inch of extra space that you need there, and that's where our 90 degree angle of our hose is gonna come in. So rather than having your hose loop out around this is gonna give you a nice tight angle with that 90 degree bend, so that you can fit this into more confined or cramped spaces. So this hose is a 12 inch long gas gear braided stainless steel pigtail hose and that's going to provide great flow for you. It's got a maximum pressure rating of 250 PSI with a 200,000 BTU maximum flow capacity. We do have that acme connection on the one end. And then you've got a 1/4 inch male inverted flare in on the other side that will connect to your regulator. So like I said, braided stainless steel so it's not going to stiffen or crack like your rubber hoses. It's gonna hold up well for you for a long time to come. This kit is going to meet your federal requirements. Meets the UL and CSA standard, so you can trust it is gonna do a really good job for you. Do wanna give you a few measurements here. So you can see how this is going to tick up space for you. Obviously I already gave you that usable length, that 3 1/4 or 3 1/8, but our overall length we're looking at right about four inches. Our height from the top of our gauge down to the bottom of our acme fitting there, we're looking at approximately 2 3/4 of an inch. And then our width is going to be that acme fitting, that's our widest point, and that is just shy of two inches about 1 7/8 of an inch there. So if you are looking for a little extra peace of mind with your propane system. I know it can be kind of intimidating worrying about leaks and that sort of thing. This is gonna be a great way to give you that peace of mind knowing that your propane is gonna be completely shut off if there we're to be a leak or something along those lines. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
