Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your truck when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your truck level, maintain even load distribution, and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your truck sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control, and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your truck and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Adjustable Air Pressure

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring airline installation

The air pressure in the Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your truck by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your truck's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Air Spring Construction

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring components

Firestone's double-convoluted Ride-Rite air springs are designed to give you maximum load support and enhance the performance and ride comfort of your truck. The rubber springs provide cushioning between your suspension components and operate at up to 100 psi. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each Ride-Rite kit includes custom-fit brackets that connect to your axle and frame. The brackets provide the mounting points for the air springs. No drilling is required for installation.

Works great, I put this on my 2018 Power Wagon and it prevents the truck from wobbling at highway speeds when overloaded.

by:

The product was complete and the instructions were good. However, the passenger top metal needed extra effort to get to get it to fit together and get the top bolts through. Driver side fit was excellent.

Its been working just fine and it really does help with the fifth wheel load around 12000 lbs.

by:
2015 Ram 2500

air bags work excellent no problems with them I have installed them on the last three trucks I have owned,I use them towing RV.

by:
2019 Dodge Ram Pickup

It did exactly what we wanted. It helped to cushion the ride and added stability when towing. Very happy with the purchase. It did take a few extra tools to get them to fit properly to my Dodge Ram 2500, but I did get it to fit and it works well.

by:

Honestly I think Firestones mounting brackets aren't that great for the 2019 ram 2500, like the top and bottom brackets didn't aline the great, but other than that it's a great kit definitely high quality.
Does it do the job: ?? Yes

by:
2021 Ram 2500

Great bags. But Firestone needs different 5th gen lower brackets.
The carriage bolt was rubbing my hard brake lines. I had to space them out with washers. I ended up installing the Daystar cups and just not using the lower bracket. Personal opinion is it should come with cups instead. All in all the bags are great. Only issue was the rubbing.

by:
2022 Ram 2500

Had a little trouble getting the upper bolts on right side install but other than that it was a breeze. Took 1.5 hrs total

by:

Right side bracket did not line up. Otherwise kit was good quality and recommended. E trailer as a vendor was excellent. Great communication and fast shipping.

by:
2016 Ram 2500

Installation was easy but instructions not really clear, etrailer's video made it a little clearer. I will try them out next week with my 5th wheel. Installed on a 2016 Ram 2500.

by:
2016 Ram 2500

Very well designed and works great.

by:
2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

This product has been serving me very well thus far. Everything was simple to install and even easier to use. Makes towing my 5th wheel nice and smooth while keeping my truck at optimal ride height. Perfect fit for the 2016 Ram 2500 with rear coils.

by:

They really work. Allowed me to put camper in 1/2 ton

by:

You won't be disappointed with these Firestone air bags. Very well designed and a pretty easy install. If I had anything to do over again I would remove the tires to make the install a little easier.

by:
2020 Ram 2500

Everything fit and works perfectly.

by:
2019 Ram 2500

Installation was fairly easy. Only a couple issues with bolts not lining up properly on passenger side top bracket. Product is as advertised and works perfect for towing my fifth wheel trailer.

by:

they work great

by:

Great product easy to install I chose to run my lines through the license plate bolts easier access and it works for me

by:
2022 Ram 2500

Easy inhalation and no air leaks the first time around.
My truck rides smoother and I have a 2022 Ram Bighorn 2500 with the tow package and it has a beefy suspension to begin with, but the air springs smoothed it out some.
Thank you for some of the video reviews that helped me decide on the product.

by:

Jamie B. made the order process quick and easy and the product was delivered on time. The Firestone air bags were installed with no problem in about 2.5 hours. I installed to help stabilize and cushion the ride when towing our fifth wheel rv.

by:

So far they seem to work great just riding around the neighborhood. Haven't had to hook up and tow a trailer or put weight in the bed yet. The only hiccup I had was the one photo without the red hose going to it you can see the bolt would not lineup on the passenger side upper bracket I had to take channel locks and squeeze Tightly to get the bolt through both sides. The bracket just needs bent a little bit from factory. This was for the 2022 ram 2500. Other than that the install was probably 2 hours for myself an hour a piece I would say. Be sure to put a fresh blade on a Utility knife when cutting red plastic air line, I used the factory pre cut sides to put those into the airbags themselves, And put the cut ends that I cut myself into my air fittings in the back that way if there were any leaks which I had one I could easily remove without jacking up the truck, removing tire, etc. and trying to get it off of the airbag

by:

Somewhat firmer ride but not harsh. gives good lateral stability pulling my 32 ft. 5th wheel.

by:
2021 Ram 2500

Well I got it all installed. The printed instructions are somewhat lacking. So I watched the video, and that contradicts some items, ie, the bottom brackets.

There is nothing saying that both are the same, there are no left/right bottom brackets, they are the same, the notches go forward. It would of been helpful to say that they are the same, I thought I got a wrong bracket trying to understand the offset bottom allen screw hole, one side is different from the other.

Also the printed instructions are different from the video in which hole the long carriage bolts use. The video fails to mention any of this, but I was able to see how it was "suppose" to look with the video dude doing the install. Otherwise I'd of been guessing.

The third and biggest PITA was the passenger side bracket, it did not allow for the 3/8 in bolt holes to line up. By shoving the two bolts in the outside holes, enough to hold the pieces, and with a good titanium pry bar, I was able to bend the bracket just enough for the top brackets to fall into place, and thus the 3/8 inch bolts slid in easily. But where it slightly bent was on the flat area aligned with the two top air spring mount bolts. I was not happy. But it's not a jet engine, so I guess it'll work.

The brake lines that are in the way, I used a pry bar and bent the bracket holding them outwards, making sure I had 1/4 inch of clearance.

bone up fellows, write up some better instructions. It's not my job nor other buyers here.

by:

These fixed my sagging rear of my pickup and I only put in 5 lbs when not using and hasn’t effected my ride.

by:

Description of product was well to make a exact fit. It was also delivered very promptly so I could install the air ride before my trip. Would recommend to others. Thanks

Works great. Always great quality with firestone and excellent customer service with etrailer.

  • Are Daystar Cradles Required for Use with Firestone Air Bags
The Daystar cradles you've mentioned are just an aftermarket addition and not at all required when using the Firestone Ride Rite # F2598; in fact, manufacturers do not recommend using them and this would possibly void the warranty. Since you're not off-roading and needing the suspension to have a lot of articulation they shouldn't be necessary anyways, so you'll do just fine having the bags installed in a normal manner where your connections are at the frame, above the axle. Firestone does not put jounce bumpers in their air springs like Air Lift, but to answer your other question directly you don't have to go with air springs for suspension enhancement but for your 2017 Ram 2500 it would be the best way to give you the support you want and allow you to tailor your ride quality to balance support and smoothness. So for that the Firestone kit part # F2598 that you referenced would be your best option.

We have just what you're looking for! I recommend the Firestone Ride-Tire Air Helper Springs because they have a double convoluted design for strength and a crimp rolled seal which performs better than other air bag kits and protects the air bags when the suspension on your 2020 Ram 2500 is put to the test.
