Video Transcript for Blazer Light Buster Backup and Utility Light Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Blazer Light Buster. This dual function light serves as both a backup light and a utility light. It's designed to fit into a standard 7 pole connector, whether it's on your RV or on your pickup truck. Part number on it is C8020. As you can see, the light has two functions. With the switch flipped into the white dot direction that sets to utility.

Means our light's going to come on any time we have it plugged in and our headlights are on. In the backup mode it'll come on any time the reverse lights come on, to give us extra light when we're trying to hook up to our trailer, or just for safety's sake we're getting a better view behind us. The utility light's great for basically everybody. Whether you're a contractor, you're trying to get the last couple things done in the day and you need some extra light, or you're at the campsite, need to get your tent set up, or even at the end of the day, and you're trying to get the kids packed up after the park. This is going to give you that little bit of extra light that you really need to get it done. Now, the bulb in it is a standard MH16 bulb, very readily available and easy to replace. Also, the design of it, it's about the size of a standard flashlight, so it's easy to store it in the glove compartment or one of the storage compartments in the back of the vehicle. Installation couldn't be any simpler than this.

You basically just open up your 7 pole cover, slide it in, and then you allow that cover to come down and secure it into place. With it installed, let's go outside. It's still dark out, so we'll let you see what it looks like in action. Placing your vehicle in reverse is going to activate the backup light, allowing us to safely back up to our trailer. As you can see, once we put it in back in park the light goes off.

It's as easy as just flipping the switch here; it's going to illuminate our work space here, that way we can see what we're doing and get the job done. That'll complete today's look at the Blazer Light Buster Backup and Utility Light for 7 pole RV style connectors, part number C8020. .

Well made, fits great, light is brighter than I thought it would be!
No brainer installation

Simple product is affordable and works very well as intended. It fits snugly and the plug cover locks the light in place. It added the perfect amount of additional light for my aftermarket backup camera to work in all weather and lighting conditions. I'm happy.

I really like the trailer plug light. It is the perfect addition to my after market back up camera I installed. It makes backing up to my trailer so much easier in the dark, and its makes backing out of parking spaces in parking lots much safer. My only suggestion would be to replace the bulb with a LED one of the same or brighter luminosity.

by:

The barrel of the light that fits into the socket is made of thin plastic and fractured the first time I removed it from my truck. eTrailer offered to have the manufacturer replace it if I paid for shipping it back, but, having had a chance to see the inside of this device, I am confident it won't last unless it is treated with kid gloves, which means it isn't a very useful tool for the rough environment around the back end of a working truck.

Update: eTrailer refunded the purchase price to me, even though it was outside of their normal return window. I appreciate them reconsidering and making this gesture. The amount of money isnt large, but taking care of disappointed customers is huge.

We would give this a better rating if it wasn’t broken and we could actually use it. We ordered It along with a 60+lb steel trailer tongue jack. Both items were loosely packed in a large box. Obviously the large item had crushed this small plastic light Into multiple pieces and is far from useable. I recommend ordering items separate if anything is fragile or lightweight and breakable

I like this product a lot but the one downfall is the cheap plastic clear cover. I lost mine somewhere on the road. Had to reorder the same product and this time I used black electrical tape to keep the lens secure to the base so I would not loose it again.

by:

This light really improved the view in my mirrors at night. It's not like a powerful headlight by any means but it does improve the view in my outside rear view mirrors. The LED lamps that other people sell to install in your taillight assembly did not do anything of value. The instructions said that the replacement bulb should be 35 watts, not 50 watts as advertised; not sure what I received.

by:

I love this little gadget. After adding a rear view camera to my 2007 Tundra, this trailer plug mounted light made backing into my parking spot next to the house so much easier. I also love the little toggle on the underside that lets you turn on the light manually (so long as the parking lights are on) while I'm connecting my trailer for my two UTV's. My buddy had one for years and swears by them. I do to. You can replace the bulb with high intensity LED bulb aftermarket too.

by:

Where do I start. The light is bright. I have a 2012 f150 and it wont lock into the factory plug cover like all the rv plugs, so if I leave it in and drive away it will fall out. Not waterproof/resistant at all. The back plate for the terminals is held in place by a tiny set screw and it will come off, mine did and I ABS glued it back on. To sum it up made in Taiwan. No complaints at all about etrailer's service 5 stars.

by:

Works great as a back up light very bright! Plug and play easy install.

My wife has a 2012 Acura MDX. She purchased it new. It's a great car with only one drawback, when in reverse the backup camera's illumination is horrible. Looking for possible solution, we found this light online. We ordered it and just received it last night. I installed it for her and it appears to help greatly. It's much better than what she was dealing with. NOTE: I purchase many things online and when I purchased this product I received a shipping confirmation within 2 hours. The product arrived the next day. I was totally impressed with the way this company expedited my purchase. Many companies take two or three days before shipping, especially during the holidays. Great Job etrailer!!!!!

by:

The product itself is good. I have one on a prior truck. The problem is the new Toyota Tundra (like Toyota is prone to do) has a different connector. The light does not slide in far enough to catch the lock tab. It also sits 90 degrees to where it should so the drain hole is horizontal to the ground rather than perpendicular.

by:

Really lights up with vehicle in reverse. My 2016 Ram 1500 has so little light while in reverse I needed to use one foot on the brake in order to see. I've had it approx. a month and so far so good. Would give it five stars but the "utility" feature does not work.

by:

Awesome light

by:

I have had it for a year and had one for 5 years before l love it works great for snowplowing

by:

I ordered these lights to give additional lighting for a when im on the beach surf fishing . I had one in the past and i loved it until i got tear ended . Installed and used 2 times already . Maybe down the road the company can offer an l.e.d upgrade ?

by:

Very bright works well, better than the reverse lights alone. It could be improved if the beam was more wide spread. Used on a 2013 F150.

by:

once again etrailer has come thru. the 7 way connector will work just fine for what i am doing, thank you

by:

Love these simple little lights, easy to plug in and put out a lot of light. Have one on another vehicle for a couple years now, no problems.

by:

I have used the Light Buster for many years. I drive an F350 extended cab with an 8 ft box and plow snow with it. I can see what is behind my truck at night. Thank you! Very fast shipping!

by:

Looks and operates very good. Fast shipping, easy to intall. Hope the light and bulb last very long before it needs replacing.

by:

It works well. Would be nice if it was led and even brighter but I can swap out the bulb. Nice thst it sits inside the bumper confines

by:

darn thing worked just like it was supposed to. will be super helpful when backing up to trailer at night.

by:

Speed of order great. Price maybe a few dollars over what was available on internet

by:

Seemed to be cheaper made than the originals I purchased several years ago. Worked fine as long as you can keep it in the socket. Lost this one I purchased within a week.

by:

works well plenty of visibility when ba cking.
