Installation of Curt Brake Controller Adapter

To install your Curt electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness, which is located behind the dashboard. To access this connector, you will need to remove the finish panel in your dash. Plug the adapter into the connector in the large gray housing behind the panel.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

I believe I entered the correct vehicle type and the cord did not match my 2024 e350 super duty. Luckily there were extra wiring harnesses with the new van. I spliced the correct end that matched my brake controller left behind my coin tray by the manufacturer. I was able to use the rest of the harness to the brake controller so it still was useful. Who knows. My manufacturer could have wired it incorrectly.

I have gotten in contact with the manufacturer and I see that part # C51432 (Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers) is only a confirmed fit for the 2014 e350 Super Duty, not the 2024. So, it does not seem like it was your installer wiring it incorrectly. I am sending in this information to our fit guide team for them to get this corrected on our site. I am sorry for the inconvenience, let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Ford 2013 F250.. This brake controller fit like a glove. I have a 2013 F250 and I finally found the plug behind the coin box on the dash. It fit just right and after I finally found where the factory plug was and routed all the wiring behind the dash it took about about 15 minutes to get everything working. I have use e-trailer for several projects and the shipping is amazing and they totally understand what they are doing. Thanks to all at e-trailer.

I bought a weight distribution hitch w|sway control, and a trailer brake controller for my Four Winds RV. I received my order today, within a few days of placing the order. I have not installed it yet but it appears to be user friendly. Both pieces are made by Curt so the quality & performance should be good.
My thanks to etrailer & Stacy??

by:

Works as expected.

I recently bought a Kurt trailer brake controller with adaptor. I have to say, that it was the easiest thing to hook up. The product was also shipped to my home very fast. I did not think I was going to receive the package until the next week, but it came just in time to use it the following day for my work. i Love ordering products from etrailer, I have only had really great service and good products from them. I will for sure, order from them again.

Brake controller and adaptor installed and connected in less than 10 minutes, I am very happy with the purchase and the included instructions and information.

This is the second of these units I have purchased and installed. The quick connect ends make it soooo easy, just plug the matching ends together (NO splicing wires). I highly recommended this unit with the pigtail extender

I see that you ordered the C51140 brake controller with the C51432 adapter. Since you said you have a factory 7 way, the adapter will plug into the built-in port behind your vehicles dash. If you cannot find the built-in port and are not sure if you have a factory 7 way, you can call a local dealer with your vin number and they will tell you. Please note, if your vehicles 7-Way trailer connector has LED test lights built into it, the TriFlex brake controller will not be compatible.

by:

First of all I received the product much faster than expected. The gal on the phone told me a week to 10 days, I received it in about four days. It took me about 10 minutes to install it and it works perfect so far. I have no complaints about this product.

by:

I haven't installed it yet but it looks fine to me

by:

Very nice. Everything fit perfect

Couldn't have been easier to install.

  • Troubleshooting Curt Discovery Brake Controller Causing Anti Theft Light to Come on with Motorhome
Your Curt Discovery Trailer Brake Controller C51120 should have installed on your Ford Forest River 3050S with the Wiring Adapter # C51432 so the wiring shouldn't be incorrect, and the Anti Theft system shouldn't be connected to a brake controller circuit at all. The only things I can think of is if your controller was hardwired in and that was done incorrectly, or if there was other wiring that was damaged and it ended up blowing a couple of fuses. To install a brake controller in a 2002 GMC Envoy there isn't a quick plug-in harness confirmed to fit the vehicle like the # C51432 that you referenced. There are 4 blunt cut wires under the dash that you will need to wire the brake controller to. To install the Curt Venturer part # C74VV you will also need the # C51515. Check out the video I attached that shows a similar brake controller being installed in a GMC Envoy of the same generation as yours to see how it installs.

  • Location of Brake Controller Connector in 2014 Ford Expedition
The connector for the brake controller is located behind the dash just to the left of the glove box. The easiest way to access the plug is to 'drop' the glove box. You'll need to either remove a few screws on the interior of the glove box, or push in on the sides to release it so it'll swing down. Once the glove box is dropped, you'll see the plug next to the glove box on the left.

  • Troubleshooting Curt TriFlex Brake Controller Keeping Motorhome from Turning On
