I just opened up my new Class 5 Curt XD hitch and have not yet installed it so my comments are based on first impressions only. It is very heavy duty - and heavy at 40 lbs. - made of extremely thick metal and outfitted with quality Grade 8 bolts with square necks so they won’t turn when torquing on the nuts to attach the main tube to the side mounting plates. My bolts are plated yellow (which I like) rather than silver as you may have seen in some online photographs. It is substantially beefier than my existing Grade 4 hitch and superior in every way. It’s an impressive piece of hardware. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with it on specifications, quality, strength, and general appearance. It’s a beast. What I AM disappointed in is Curt’s packaging and the condition in which the hitch arrived. (This is NOT a reflection on etrailer.com as the hitch arrived in Curt’s original packaging.) The unassembled main tube and the two side mounting plates come bundled together with nothing separating them but shrink wrap. No cardboard, plastic, even paper coming between the metal surfaces - just shrinkwrap probably not even a couple of mils thick. With basically metal-to-metal contact in an oversized-box with the bundle jostling around, it would be a miracle if there were no scratches, gouges, or some type of damage to at least one piece, which is exactly what happened to my hitch. The main hitch tube, on the exterior facing plane, on the driver side where I’ll see it every day, has some gouges on it that go through the powder-coating to bare metal. I can - and will - paint them to prevent rust (and, therefore, have to paint the whole hitch to match). But the gouges will still be noticeable as they go through the thicker, pebbly, powder-coat finish and will undoubtedly still appear as depressions in the surface even once painted. I fully realize this kind of surface damage will almost certainly happen with regular usage of the hitch anyway and that it’s certifiable to demand absolute perfection in anything. But if you are someone who cares about the aesthetics of your equipment and keeping it looking new for as long as possible, it is very disappointing to receive such an expensive and prominent piece of hardware damaged right out of the box and requiring immediate repainting. The plastic parts bag had also ripped open in transit, with nuts, bolts, shims, etc. rattling around in the box. I am dumbfounded that Curt packages such a high-quality piece of equipment so shoddily where such damage is virtually unavoidable. I bought from Curt solely due to their being an American manufacturer and to support American workers so this is doubly discouraging. It’s a trivial complaint in the big scheme of things and not worth demanding a replacement over. Just be aware that unless Curt changes their packaging practices it is very possible you will have the wind taken out of your towing project sails just as I have. Again, this in no way reflects on etrailer. My experience to date with etrailer (website, educational resources, staff reviews, ordering, tracking, email contact, etc.) has been beyond exemplary in every way. They rank as a Top Five online retailer in my opinion, maybe even the best.

Box arrived with loose parts/bolts falling out. Flat flanges that are to be bolted together have bent corners. End plates damaged cross brace of hitch... mostly just cosmetic, but still. Packaging left a bit to be desired. Packing 70 lbs of steel in a box with a little bit of paper and 1 piece of cardboard inside to "protect" during shipping didn't work.
Have to use it as it is, because I have a tight timeliness, or I would want the damaged parts replaced or return it.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. It sounds like that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment which can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a FAQ that can assist with moving the side brackets of the hitch back into alignment. I also recommend touching up the hitch with a rust resistant paint which you will have on hand for regular hitch maintenance.

1992 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup

The hitch has worked as expected, doing it's job well. My only complaint is that when I received it, the finish had flaked off on both side upright panels down to bare metal. I threw some black paint on it to cover it but it still rusted through and looks gross. I could be mistaken, but I thought these were powder coated. Anyway, it's still a great hitch that pulls my landscape trailers snowmobile trailer car hauler and camper with confidence! Thank You. P.S. The truck has been painted since install.

The hitch seems to be great quality however the box was damaged and a few washers and nuts are missing.

1996 GMC Sierra

The hitch arrived three days after ordering and in perfect condition. I installed it on a 1996 GMC Sierra 2500HD and installation was a breeze. It took around 30 minutes and I did not have to move/lower the spare tire to install the hitch. Very happy with the entire process!

by:

Originally, I ordered this for my pickup, it arrived, and hardware was falling out of the box, I took pictures, and sent the Customer support team an email, within not even two days, they replied, and told me they would send out the replacement hardware package, the hitch was just what I needed, and the Proper hardware arrived, i did NOT have to remove the bumper to install the hitch, I removed the bumper to re paint, all around very nice product, fit my 1993 Chevy C2500

1998 GMC C/K Series Pickup

I'm very pleased with this Trailer hitch. Its super beefy and will do everything I need it to and more. It bolted right up to my 1998 GMC sierra. It doesn't come out past the bumper and fits nicely in place. There was one spot on the powder coating that had been scraped off, but I assume that was during shipping and it wasn't a big enough deal for me to be worried. One installation note though (applying to 88-98 GM trucks), my taillights were grounded to the frame next to the left side center bolt, so I needed to drill a new hole and ground them further towards the front of the vehicle (pictured below), which, again, wasn't a real issue for me, but I'm assuming others could run into that, and Id like to let them know. Great product, great website!

1997 GMC C/K Series Pickup

Great looking hitch receiver. Mounted on my 97 3500 dually long bed. Looks good and beefy. Installed by myself in about 20 minutes. Was a little unsure about curt at first being that my father in law bought an adjustable universal fit one for hit 3500 express van that flexed under just the weight of car trailer by itself. Haven’t hauled with this one yet but I don’t think itl move at all. Worth they money for the bearer actual fit hitch instead of a universal.

2000 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup

Doing business with e-trailer reminded me of years ago. I had technical questions before ordering and to my surprise, they have truly knowledgeable folks. Questions answered allowed me to order a hitch that fit perfectly, and it was delivered a day earlier than expected. In today's world of make a fast buck businesses, it has been my pleasure to do business with a e-trailer! I highly recommend them and would order from them again.

by:
1993 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup

This was very easy to mount and fit like a glove. I used the alternate installation method of bolting the sides to the frame first and then bolting on the cross member. This made it very easy for a one man job. It came out flush witht the bumber so I don't have to worry about bumping into when the stinger is not installed. I ordered it on a Thursday and had it on Saturday. If I need anything towing related I'll be back.

Hitch is sturdy and has actually firmed up my truck rails. Only thing I wish the manufacture would send separate from the hitch is the stickers with all the information on them. First time you hit the hitch with the pressure washer, they are gone!!!!

great, still wish extra stickers would be sent, as soon as a high pressure washer hits the sticker its shreded.

When installing thought I had been given the wrong hitch because the hitch was wider than my frame rails. Realized my fram rails needed seperated. Put a high jack inbetween to spread it, installed hitch and now its firm once again.

Prompt delivery. Exact fit for my 1996 Chevy. Extremely heavy duty. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Nice hitch very easy to install and so far handling all my towing needs! Towing a 34’ travel trailer and up to a 28’ bumper hitch flatbed with a case backhoe on it ! Good hitch

by:
1992 GMC C2500

Well built! I especially like the way the receiver is gusseted from both the top and bottom. I haul a 7000lb+ tractor and a 28ft camper the bumper hitch on my flatbed was flexing under the tongue weight. This hitch is solid! The instructions could be a little more clear about which bolts go where, and a left and right sticker on the side plates wouldn't have hurt. My truck (a 1992 GMC C2500 2WD) didn't have the weld nuts described in the directions. It only took 30 minutes or so to install.

by:
1990 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup

Very heavy duty construction. Holes lined up with truck frame perfectly. The hardest part of the install was getting the old junk receiver off. Very pleased with product. A great heavy duty hitch at a very reasonable price. I own a 12500 GVW trailer used to haul tractors, cars, and other misc. items. I feel much safer towing with this heavy duty hitch.

Fit perfectly, very strong, and looks very good , So glad I bought this one for my Chevy truck, Couldn't be more pleased, I would Recommend this hitch to anyone , another thing I really like about it is it doesn't stick out past the bumper looks great, and very strong , also I called and talked with a lady before ordering very helpful, and kind I not only recommend this hitch but also etrailer.com , Thank you ! Couldn't be more happier

1989 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup

What a great experience. My wife, daughter and I were able to install this trailer hitch in about 2 hours. We would have cut that time in half, except the previous owner had a custom exhaust installed on the truck and they placed the supports right where the trailer hitch was supposed to bolt on. other than that everything went well. I would highly recommend etrailer for any hitch needs.

by:
1993 Chevy K3500

Bought this for a '93 K3500 crew cab to replace original receiver hitch with equalizer rating of only 10,000 lbs - not enough for planned use. Receipt of hitch receiver more than met expectations - very prompt arrival, well constructed and included very good instructions. Chose the second installation option which is to loosely bolt the hitch frame hangers to the truck frame first, then attach the receiver tube crossbar to them, then tighten everything. Less potential problems with bolt hole alignments by this approach - also didn't want to try to support the whole assembly at once while crawling under truck - it's not light!

by:
1993 GMC C/K Series Pickup

From internet start to my finished installation truly an outstanding experience! The etrailer website made finding the right parts easy, affordable (best products, price and service ever!) and secure. The follow up email with shipping information, tutorial and tracking links all appreciated too! My parts arrived on time and made for an enjoyable 1 hour 10 minute Friday afternoon in the garage. Everything fit perfectly. I put my Class V receiver to work Saturday morning. Thank you etrailer!

2000 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

All in all a good hitch. I installed this on a 2000 3500 Chevy with a service body. We removed the bumper hitch and installed this frame hitch. The hitch is great and went together well. The only issue I had was the hitch lined up with the spring hanger bracket rivet, so I had to drill out the rivet and install a bolt in order to get this hitch to work. No big deal, but took an extra hour or so to drill out the rivets. I would definitely buy this hitch again if I had another truck that needed it.

First let's start with a hitch, if you do not have a 10 inch deep drop bumper you would want the Curt Hitch part # C15325.
