BOLT has solved that problem by designing a line of locks that can operate with a key you already have handy - your vehicle ignition key.
When you insert your own key into the cylinder, spring-loaded plate tumblers move up and down until they are matched exactly to that key. The first time the key is rotated, the cylinder is uniquely coded to that key. When the key is removed, the cylinder moves into the locked position. When the key is turned again, it will rotate to the unlocked position.
BOLT is particularly useful in commercial applications. Imagine being able to send a crew without having to sign out multiple keys for a work truck, trailer, hitch pins, and equipment locks. With BOLT, the vehicle key becomes a master key. It opens all those locks and you no longer have the hassle of getting to a work site only to find that you've brought the wrong keys.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this bolt spare tire lock. This is going to lock your spare tire onto your jeep to make sure that no thieves can come along and take your spare tire away from you. This will mount right onto the stud that is holding your tire in place that will replace one of your jeep's half-inch by 20-thread threaded lug nuts. This is a three-quarter inch stud lug nut. So once you have this mounted in place, then you'll slide this collar over it, and that collar is going to hide the angles there that would allow you to use a wrench or a tool to remove it.
So that way, no one can come along and take that off. And then, your locking portion is gonna slide over that to lock it so that no one who has the key can pull it apart, get to your spare tire. The really nice thing about these bolt locks is that these are going to be keyed alike to your vehicle's ignition so they come ready to be coated. You'll just slide your ignition key in there and turn it a few times and that will code it to match your ignition key. That way, you don't have to worry about having a separate key for your lock, being out on the road, needing your spare tire, and realizing that you left the key at home.
This way, your ignition key is going to unlock it so you always have that key ready for you. Once you get this coded to your vehicle's key, it will forever be coded to that key. There's no way to re-code it or re-key it. So, you will be capable of unlocking this with your ignition key only. This is a nice automotive quality lock.
It's gonna be very durable and weatherproof. It does have a cast zinc cylinder that's gonna offer superior corrosion resistance, a stainless steel lock shutter that's gonna keep out dirt and moisture. The outside is covered with this easy-to-grip hard rubber casing to help protect the lock. It's also got the attached hard rubber dust cover to protect the lock face. So, should last you a nice long time, do a good job of making sure that everything is gonna be operational.
Now keep in mind, this is going to work for most factory and aftermarket alloy wheels with the lug nut depth between zero and one and three-eighths of an inch. This will work with the jeep keys that have the center portion that looks like what you see on the screen there. So, should fit for many if not all of the jeeps out there. But that is the key type that will fit into this and this will code to that key so that you are the only one that will be able to open it. It is very easy to get it coded but they do include some instructions with pictures to just make that step a little bit easier for you. But overall, I think you're gonna to be very happy with this. I think it's gonna do a great job of protecting your spare tire and being very convenient with that vehicle ignition key being the key to unlock it. So, that's going to complete our look for today!
