This AC unit from Advent Air is designed to replace the old or broken Carrier air conditioner on your RV or camper. The included adapter wiring kit ensures that the AC works seamlessly with your existing, in-good-working-order Carrier air distribution box and thermostat. The AC has a powerful fan and motor that provides a steady stream of air to efficiently cool the inside of your RV on a hot or muggy day. The included start capacitor will help jumpstart the AC. This beneficial upgrade provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. And everything you need in order to replace your AC unit is included, which makes installation simple and easy.

Start Capacitor

Advent Air Start Capacitor

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

Advent Air AC Installation 13,500 BTU

Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple and easy. Most AC units, including this one, are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.

Advent Air AC Collapsible Gasket and Foam Pads

On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't required during installation.

To install the start capacitor, bolt it to the fan motor support with the included hardware and then route the wires to the run capacitor.

Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.

Advent Air Warranty Coverage

2-Year limited warranty covers defective units when installed correctly on approved applications. The warranty does not cover units installed incorrectly. To ensure air conditioner is installed correctly, please see the questionnaire pdf below. A filled-out questionnaire is required for warranty coverage.

If you are not comfortable using a voltmeter (or removing the charge from the start capacitor), youll want to make a service appointment with your local RV dealer to verify the installation. Print the pdfs below (warranty- questionnaire, warranty dealer information) and take them along with the RV to your local dealer. ASA does compensate dealers for warranty work as outlined in the dealer information pdf. You may be charged by the dealer for time spent investigating the installation.

When ordering this Advent with Carrier harness, I asked the sales rep 3 times to ensure it would replace a Carrier Unit that had a heat pump. Explained to her that the owner did not want a heat pump in the new unit, just A/C. Sales rep repeated that this was a direct replacement, just use the included harness and it would work with the Carrier Air Box and control board. Unit arrived and I removed Carrier and installed Advent unit. Wired in adapter harness. Unit would only run on Lo speed fan, no compressor, no Hi Fan. Spent 30 minutes troubleshooting Unit before calling ETRAILER for help. Different sales rep put me on hold and came back to say that there is a Tech Bulletin saying that it is not compatible with Carrier units that had a heat pump. Her only option given was to send me a shipping label to return the Advent unit. Told me that the rep I spoke with previously must have missed it. I suggested ordering a new air handler box and Thermostat to get the Advent working so my customer wouldn't have to pay me to do nothing but swap her old non-working Carrier back on the roof to block the 14" hole in the roof. Now waiting until mid June for a air handler as ETRAILER did not have any in stock. Morale of the story, don't use this on a Carrier that had a heat pump!

by:

It only run 3 hours and stopped running piece of junk so I went and bought a Coleman Mach air conditioner

by:

I received the replacement air conditioner a week earlier than expected which was great! Installation was easy and directions were simple and I am now nice and comfortable. I gave this item a 3 star rating simply because I haven't had it long enough to rate the actual unit.

by:

Great service and very fast shipping. Thank you team etrailer.

by:

Just got it installed which was extremely easy !

by:

Waiting to install this spring, will let you all know how it goes. Unbelievable fast shipping, all looks good do far

by:

The AC I ordered was exactly what I needed. Installation was not too difficult. The only issue I had was reconnecting the thermostat in the control panel. But I know now, that I should have taken a picture before disconnecting the wires. My husband installed the rooftop unit and I helped him with the wiring.
Installation took 1.5 hours total.

by:

Very easy installation. Instructions easy to comprehend. We not started and is working fine. Going through e trailer actually save me 900 dollars based on quote frame local tv shop. Thanks a bunch and God bless!

by:

we installed the AC unit yesterday and it is working good on low speed but won't run on high fan. Im not sure if it is the fault of the unit or something in the wiring or the printed circuit board. The unit we replaced got to the point that it wouldn't run on high either. Getting the unit on top of the camper was easy once we viewed a video of how it was done, and we got the old unit down with no problem using the rope and ladder.

by:

Easy install. Carrier wire harness plugs right in.

by:

Everything about this purchase was top notch! The order arrived as promised. The instructions were easy to follow and the replacement went without any problems. Thank You!

by:

by the time I received the unit, motor home was in storage. Installed it in May, it works great, went in well.

by:

This is a great product. Bolted on easy, wiring connected up very nice allowing me to use original controls. Used it last summer and it works real good. I couldn't be happier.

I couldn't be more disappointed in this unit. I initially bought as an alternative to a 15k ducted Dometic unit that went bad and quit cooling in my 2018 Heartland Bighorn. The description at the time said it was a direct replacement and was 1/3 the price so I bought it. Like a lot of others, it showed up with a damaged cover. etrailer says they'll ship a new one when they get back in stock so that's no big deal. The issues began when I started the install. I got my old unit off the roof and the new one up. The footprint is considerably smaller so all the old mounting holes fell outside the gaskets area so I had holes to patch in my roof. The cutout size was exact, but there was no center divider to separate the return air from the supply air so I had to make one of those too. I went to hook up the wiring and, lo and behold, the control box wasn't included and wasn't compatible with my Dometic unit and there isn't an adapter available. Back to etrailer to order the control box I needed. Finally figured out how to rewire my camper to match the new box (again, no adapters or instructions are available) and found out my Dometic thermostat isn't compatible with the new control box. Finally sourced one from Amazon since etrailer doesn't sell it and got that installed a few days ago. Turned everything back on and it started to run. Checked all 3 fan speeds and everything seemed to be working good. It was 87 in the camper after sitting in the Spring sun of South Carolina all day. Let it run on high for an hour and a half and went back out to check on things. It had only dropped to 84 degrees! It's not even remotely hot outside yet. The air was coming out cool, just very little volume. If this is how it's going to be this thing is getting ripped back off and I'll bite the bullet and buy a Dometic again.

Long story summed up - compatible doesn't mean anything and upgrade is a complete lie. This is the first time I've truly been let down by etrailer.

The main problem with these units is the shipping container. This was the third unit that arrived damaged. UPS must have flipped the box over on its top and crushed the compressor terminal housing. The impact was hard enough for one of the terminal screws to punch a hole through the top cover of air conditioner. I waited weeks for this unit to be in stock again and now they want me to wait weeks more to get a replacement. as for the quality of the unit itself: unknown since I can't get a fully functional unit to install. Probably going with a Furion or Dometic at this point.

  • Recommended Replacements For A Carrier Air V RV Air Conditioner System
Without a serial number to check there isn't an exact way to find out the BTU rating of your AC unit. Typically if your camper has 30 amp service then you'll most likely have a 13,500 BTU unit and 15,000 for 50 amp.
