Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 1994 GMC Van

Today on this 1994 GMC full size van, we are going to be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 75121. Before we get starting installing our trailer hitch we are going to go ahead and give you a couple of final install dimensions that will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 12-1/2 inches. And from the center of the pin hole, to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to be approximately 2-1/2 inches. We are going to start off underneath the vehicle here with our installation. And we are actually looking at the driver side frame rail. We are going to point out the mounting locations for this trailer hitch. Attached to the bottom of the frame, as well as the bumper, is the bumper bracket. And there is a bolt holding it into the bumper and two into the frame. We will actually be removing the bumper bracket from not only the driver side but from the passenger side as well. And the hitch will actually be replacing it. 0:46

Once we do remove the bumper bracket, we will actually be reusing the existing hardware on the vehicle. And, if you continue forward on the frame, just forward on the angle of support, there is an existing hole here and that is going to provide our forward most attaching point for the frame. Into that existing hole, we are actually going to be fishing the carriage bolt and block assembly that is provided with the installation kit. And we are actually going to go ahead and do that first. We are going to go ahead and take the provided bolt leader and we want to take the threaded end here. Insert it in the bottom of the frame, through the existing hole and back out this large hole in the frame. We will next take our block and go ahead and slide it on to the bolt leader. And then we will take the carriage bolt and we will wrap the threads of the bolt leader around the threads of the carriage bolt. So from there, we just want to take the other end of the bolt leader and go ahead and pull the block and carriage bolt down into place. Alright, and then we will just go ahead now and move on to removing the bumper bracket. Depending on the age of your vehicle, the bolts that are attaching the bumper bracket to the bumper could have a considerable amount of rust or road grime built up on the nuts. So it is a good idea to thoroughly soak and clean those with a spray lubricant, like a WD-30, before attempting to remove a nut. 2:07

With the passenger side completed, we can go ahead and put the hitch up in position. To the bottom of the carriage bolt, we are going to add the conical tooth washer, along with the lock washer and hex nut. From there we will just continue rearward where, again, we are going to be using the same bolts that we had taken out of the frame earlier. Connecting the attaching point to the bumper with the installation kit includes a flat washer. And we are going to put this on as well as a new nut, which is a locking nut. Now that we have all of the hardware up into place and tightened down, we are going to go back through now and torque each one of the bolts down. You want to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each of the bolts. And then with our bolts torqued down, our installation will be complete. This will conclude the installation of Draw-Tite hitch part number 75121 on a 1994 GMC full size van.

Excellent, lots of heavy duty towing. No issues.

It had popped through the package in a few spots when delivered, but it seems super tough and the model number that I ordered. I'm not equipped to put it on, so I'll have someone else put it on, but I watched the video and it looks pretty easy. Also, it looks like all the attachment hardware is there. It's heavy! I give you an excellent rating. Thank you!

Giving this hitch receiver a 1 star rating, after reading the reviews and installation information, I purchased this for my 1994 Gmc Vandura. It wasn't an exact fit I had to grind down the some of the metal on the hitch for two of the bolts and one side I wasn't able to use any washers. So after cutting and grinding one side still didn't line up and I had to use a breaker bar to get the side to flex just enough to get the bolts in. I had to disconnect the exhaust pipe off the hanger and now is hanging too low and I will have to spend more money and time to get a new hanger welded on to clear the new hitch. I would not recommend this kit for a 90's model Gmc Vandura, I would maybe try the Curt and hopefully avoid the issues that I've mentioned above and spending extra money to fabricate the hitch or potentially having to deal with taking it to any exhaust shop for even more fabricating

This hitch fit my 1989 Chevy G20 van *perfectly*, just like their on-line selector said. The best part was the special spring tool to get two of the bolts into position inside the frame rail... follow the instructions and they work like a charm. This replaces the bottom bumper support on each side, in case that wasn't clear. Solid as a rock after installation... now I can hitch up to just about anything. I don't buy this stuff often but etrailer.com delivered and I'd buy from them again.

I purchased a Curt brand hitch for one of my other Chevy vans and it lined up for the holes a lot better than this Draw-tite. The Draw-Tite seems like a good hitch other than that but there is NO reason to have to use a drift pin to get the bolt holes to line up.

The Drawtite hitch fits good for my 1992 chevy van . One of the main reasons for choosing your product was the video that was available for the instalation on your web site before I purchased it.
However the ups shipping was not totally successful.. the receiver was poking out of the box when I received it. But no damage. You need to secure it better inside the carton if you use UPS ... their gorillas.
Thanks, Tom

Clear instructions and fit as it's supposed to. The fishing wire makes the front bolt drop through the frame a snap.

1995 Chevrolet Van

Seems to be a good sturdy product. That leader bolt puller was amazing. A bit of difficulty getting things lined up but probably only because the vehicle has been beat around a bit. Powder coated my ass. Only painted and it appears to have never been primed. It was flaking off the edges of the quarter inch end plates and exposing shiny metal. For my G30 van I had to cut a corner off the left bumper plate because there was a bolt head there. Otherwise it was as expected.

I bought this for an older classic van. I was surprised that it was a perfect fit. I installed it with no issues. One year later it looks great. Would highly recommend using this company

  • Replacement Trailer Hitch Mounting Hardware For 1986 Chevrolet G20 Van
I have an option for you, but the spacer block used for your 1986 Chevy G20 Van measures 1/4" x 1" x 2-1/2" and the closest option we have that is not sold as a kit is the Trailer Hitch Spacer Block # RP3022 which measures 3" Long x 1" Wide x 1/4" Thick and may not work in the frame without modification. Instead I recommend find which brand and model the trailer hitch receiver you are installing on your van is, and using Replacement Hardware Kit # RHK. You will need to enter the model...

  • Availability of Front-Mounted Hitch Receiver for 1992 Chevrolet Cutaway Van on G30 Frame
Curt front-mount hitch # C31016 is specified to fit certain GMC and Chevrolet vans and RV cutaways but not until the 1996 model year. I show no custom-fit front-mount hitches for this vehicle, only rear-mount hitches from Draw-Tite, # 75121 and # 41121 for vans without the step bumper. I also checked directly with Curt and Draw-Tite and neither shows any front hitch fits. My Curt contact suggested a universal-fit RV-type hitch as a possible work-around. We do offer several adjustable/universal-fit...

  • Trailer Hitch and Towing Accessories Recommendation for 2003 Ford Escape
For a Class III hitch for a 2003 Escape, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite # 75118. If you'll be towing with your Escape, you'll also need the following to complete your towing system: Trailer wiring harness, part # 118343 Ball mount, part # AMSC2 1-7/8 inch trailer ball, part # 19260 or 2 inch ball, part # 63845 Trailer hitches are custom designed to be vehicle specific. The # 75121 hitch you referenced is a fit for the Chevy G Series van, and wouldn't fit your Escape. I've linked you to...

  • Trailer Hitch for a 1988 Chevy G30 Customized into School Bus
The bolt holes will line up. The fact that the 1988 Chevy Van was converted to a bus doesn't since it is still on a G30 chassis/frame. The issue that you have to be concerned about is how the body of the bus will affect the fit of a trailer hitch. The issue is that the hitches available were designed for the stock vans. The bus body likely hangs a little lower and further back from the rear axle than the stock van body which will cause fit issues. This is the case the vast majority of...
